Abstract

This new edition of the classic textbook on health informatics provides readers in healthcare practice and educational settings with an unparalleled depth of information on using informatics methods and tools. However, this new text speaks to nurses and — in a departure from earlier editions of this title — to all health professionals in direct patient care, regardless of their specialty, extending its usefulness as a textbook. This includes physicians, therapists, pharmacists, dieticians and many others. In recognition of the evolving digital environments in all healthcare settings and of interprofessional teams, the book is designed for a wide spectrum of healthcare professions including quality officers, health information managers, administrators and executives, as well as health information technology professionals such as engineers and computer scientists in health care. The book is of special interest to those who bridge the technical and caring domain, particularly nurse and medical informaticians and other informaticians working in the health sciences. Nursing Informatics: An Interprofessional and Global Perspective contains real-life case studies and other didactic features to illustrate the theories and principles discussed, making it an ideal resource for use within health and nursing informatics curricula at both undergraduate and graduate level, as well as for workforce development. It honors the format established by the previous editions by including a content array and questions to guide the reader. Readers are invited to look out of the box through a dedicated global perspective covering health informatics applications in different regions, countries and continents.

Abstract

Sentiment analysis deals with extracting information about opinions, sentiments, and even emotions conveyed by writers towards topics of interest. Medical sentiment analysis refers to the identification and analysis of sentiments or emotions expressed in free-textual documents with a scope on healthcare and medicine. This fascinating problem offers numerous application areas in the domain of medicine, but also research challenges. The book provides a comprehensive introduction to the topic. The primary purpose is to provide the necessary background on medical sentiment analysis, ranging from a description of the notions of medical sentiment to use cases that have been considered already and application areas of relevance. Medical sentiment analysis uses natural language processing (NLP), text analysis and machine learning to realise the process of extracting and classifying statements regarding expressed opinion and sentiment. The book offers a comprehensive overview on existing methods of sentiment analysis applied to healthcare resources or health-related documents. It concludes with open research avenues providing researchers indications which topics still have to be developed in more depth.

Abstract

This essential book details intermediate-level statistical methods and frameworks for the clinician and medical researcher with an elementary grasp of health statistics and focuses on selecting the appropriate statistical method for many scenarios. Detailed evaluation of various methodologies familiarizes readers with the available techniques and equips them with the tools to select the best from a range of options. The inclusion of a hypothetical case study between a clinician and statistician charting the conception of the research idea through to results dissemination enables the reader to understand how to apply the concepts covered into their day-to-day clinical practice. Applied Statistical Considerations for Clinical Researchers focuses on how clinicians can approach statistical issues when confronted with a medical research problem by considering the data structure, how this relates to their study's aims and any potential knock-on effects relating to the evidence required to make correct clinical decisions. It covers the application of intermediate-level techniques in health statistics making it an ideal resource for the clinician seeking an up-to-date resource on the topic.

Abstract

This book includes recent research on Data Science, IoT, Smart Cities and Smart Energy, Health Informatics, and Network Security. The International Conference on Advances in Computing Research (ACR’23) brings together a diverse group of researchers from all over the world with the intent of fostering collaboration and dissemination of the advances in computing technologies. The conference is aptly segmented into six tracks to promote a birds-of-the-same-feather congregation and maximize participation. The first track covers computational intelligence, which include, among others, research topics on artificial intelligence, knowledge representation and management, application and theory of neural systems, fuzzy and expert systems, and genetic algorithms. The second track focuses on cybersecurity engineering. It includes pertinent topics such as incident response, hardware and network security, digital biometrics and forensics technologies, and cybersecurity metrics and assessment. Further, it features emerging security technologies and high-tech systems security. The third track includes studies on data analytics. It covers topics such as data management, statistical and deep analytics, semantics and time series analytics, and a multitude of important applications of data analytics in areas such as engineering, health care, business, and manufacturing. The fourth track on network and communications covers a wide range of topics in both areas including protocols and operations, ubiquitous networks, ad hoc and sensor networks, cellular systems, virtual and augmented reality streaming, information centric networks, and the emerging areas in connected and autonomous vehicle communications. Lastly, the final track on cloud and mobile computing includes areas of interest in cloud computing such as infrastructure, service, management and operations, architecture, and interoperability and federation. This track also includes important topics in mobile computing such as services and applications, communication architectures, positioning and tracking technologies, the general applications of mobile computing. .
