In deze publicatie wordt de muziektherapeutische praktijk in de revalidatie in Nederland en België beschreven. Recente klinische ontwikkelingen uit de diverse praktijken zijn hier toegevoegd, zoals de behandeling van motorische, cognitieve en spraak- en taalstoornissen bij volwassenen, chronische pijn, ernstige meervoudige beperkingen bij kinderen, kanker en muziekblessures. Nieuw is ook de aandacht voor de sterk toegenomen kennis over de werking van muziek op de hersenen en de consequenties daarvan voor de klinische praktijk.Met behulp van deze kennis zullen muziektherapeuten steeds beter in staat zijn de resultaten van hun muziektherapeutische interventies bij kinderen en volwassenen met wetenschappelijke onderzoeksresultaten te onderbouwen. De ontwikkeling van speciaal ontworpen elektronische muziekinstrumenten en het gebruik van de computer met randapparatuur en software heeft de laatste jaren een hoge vlucht genomen. Ook zijn de mogelijkheden van aanpassingen aan muziekinstrumenten nog verder uitgebreid.
