Raphael's Poetics makes the connection between the world famous and the unknown; it reconstructs the visual grammar that underlies the famous works of Raphael and which derives from the classical and contemporary Latin poetry that was so omnipresent in his surroundings but is now largely forgotten. By focusing on principles that from the basis of poetry Rijser explains the context in which Raphael's works were functioning, and arrives at an interpretation that they may have had for their intended audience. Highly innovative, thanks to the emphasis on a literary standpoint while looking at visual objects, Rijsers research results in a truly interdisciplinary methodology.

Erwin Panofsky's Habilitation thesis, which was previously believed lost and was discovered quite by surprise in June 2012 at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich, will be published by De Gruyter in 2014. The work, titled Die Gestaltungsprincipien Michelangelos, besonders in ihrem Verhältnis zu denen Raffaels, was never published, and may well be regarded as a milestone in the academic history of the field of art history. The epochal work is to be edited by Gerda Panofsky. De Gruyter will be publishing it accompanied by Gerda Panofsky's own biography about her late husband's early life, school, and student years, along with his conceptual sketches from the years 1915-17 that have been preserved in manuscript form.

Until the founding of the public museum in the 18th century, the works of Raphael were known to other artists almost exclusively from their transmission in etchings. Among these, the works of Raphael’s contemporary Marcantonio Raimondi and his atelier were a critical factor in his reception. This publication examines Raimondi’s graphic art as a mediator for Raphael’s work and an impetus for creative interest.Presents new discoveries about the collaboration between Raphael and Raimondi Illuminates the cultural and media historical dimensions of graphic art.
