Abstract

"This compilation presents a detailed review of current research, developments, and progress on nanotechnology usage for the elimination of dyes from effluents released by textile industries. The benefits of using nanomaterials for functionalized textile production are presented, and the applications of nanomaterials in the most known functional technical textiles are discussed. The authors present the results of empirical studies carried out in the Portuguese industrial context, including the textile sector, where the relationship between negative effects associated with shift work and the adoption of certain management practices by organizations is analyzed. Additionally, the authors discuss how, to achieve the Fourth Industrial Revolution, technological tools must be incorporated into both the production and consumption of textiles. The closing study indicates that it is possible to make objective pilling detection easily for standard fabric structures in the textile industry using databases created by measuring lots of samples"--

Abstract

We know that sustainability has become an important topic in every aspect of life. The textile, fashion, and material industries must also be sustainable, which could be imparted in their development, production, or even marketing. The textile industry has a huge market, as clothing is arguably the most important human need after food. Recently, this industry has been labeled as a polluting industry, a label that could be overcome by the proper development of textile goods and careful marketing strategies. There are specific roles that government, entrepreneurs, and even universities can play in properly educating people to make the textile industry cleaner and greener. Several journals focus only on one of the aspects of this key problem, i.e., the production of sustainable materials, textile education, or textile marketing. However, herein, we strive to bring different areas together on one platform to cover different aspects, i.e., production, policy education, and marketing related to textile fashion and textile materials.

Abstract

The range of textiles available in markets across the western Mediterranean expanded significantly during the thirteenth century. Cloth retailers, or drapers, constituted a fundamental link between merchants and consumers, using a network of local markets with specific spaces for selling cloth. They were able to sell a wide range of commodities, including Flemish and French woollens, to satisfy a growing demand. Between 1250 and 1350, there were also tailors almost everywhere, some at the permanent service of an aristocratic court, such as the kings of Aragon, but most of them worked as independent entrepreneurs offering their services in exchange for specific payments. Therefore both drapers and tailors formed small partnerships and frequently used credit in order to reach all levels of medieval society.

Abstract

Abstract

The textile industry impacts the environment in a number of ways, including its use of resources, its impact on global warming, and the amount of pollution and waste it generates. Assessing the Environmental Impact of Textiles and the Clothing Supply Chain reviews methods used to calculate this environmental impact including product carbon footprints (PCFs), ecological footprints (EFs) and life cycle assessment (LCA). The first chapters provide an introduction to the textile supply chain and its environmental impact, and an overview of the methods used to measure this impact.

Abstract

Automation in Garment Manufacturing provides a systematic and comprehensive insight into the multifaceted process of how technological improvements are transforming all aspects of garment manufacturing, allowing manufacturers to meet the growing demand for greater productivity, efficiency, and flexibility. The first chapter covers the role of automation in design and product development, including color matching, fabric inspection, 3D body scanning, computer-aided design and prototyping. Part II covers automation in garment production, from handling, spreading and cutting, through to finishing and pressing techniques. The final chapters discuss advanced tools for assessing productivity in manufacturing and for logistics and supply-chain management. This book is a key resource for all those engaged in textile and apparel development and production, and is also ideal for academics engaged in research on textile science and technology.
