In Horos, Thea Potter explores the complex relationship between classical philosophy and the 'horos', a stone that Athenians erected to mark the boundaries of their marketplace, their gravestones, their roads and their private property. Potter weaves this history into a meditation on the ancient philosophical concept of horos, the foundational project of determination and definition, arguing that it is central to the development of classical philosophy and the marketplace. Horos challenges many significant interpretations of ancient thought. With nuance and insight, Potter combines the works of Aristotle, Plato, Homer and archaic Greek inscriptions with the twentieth-century continental philosophy of Heidegger, Derrida and Walter Benjamin. The result is a powerful study of the theme of boundaries in classical Athenian society as evidenced by boundary stones, law and exchange, ontology, insurgency and occupation. The innovative book will be of interest to scholars in the fields of ancient Greek social history, philosophy, and literature, as well as to the general reader who is curious to know more about classical life and philosophy.

Ah, if only I were not so alive and so crowded with things, what a book I would write [...] but there's so little time [...]. There's lots of time to map them out, that's true, but it's not enough. This is the voice of the protagonist of Convalescenza, one of the stories in this book that - thanks to the painstaking editorial attention of Silvia Fantacci - presents the prose written by Ruggero Jacobbi starting from his precocious youth through to the Sixties. The nine sections, recording fragments of memories, vestiges of mystery and bitter solitude, meander between cinema and theatre, revoke the faces of the war, recall the figures of writers and friends, suggest new approaches to reading. The evocation of Brazil, where Jacobbi spent the most important fifteen years of his life, is not lacking: a country "so big as to drive you crazy" with its magical rites, its rhythm, its culture (the music of Villa-Lobos, Vinícius de Morais and Dorival Caymmi and the poetry of his friend Murilo Mendes). The meticulous notes and the appendix at the end of the book illustrate the history of each text and offer a reconstruction of the projects for novels and stories that were left unfinished and have now finally been transferred from the mind and desk of the writer into book form.

Die Studie erforscht mit kultursoziologischen Methoden (narrativ-problemorientierte Interviews, Deutungsmusteranalysen) den Stellenwert der literarischen Bildung bei Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen des Hochkulturschemas, deren literarische Sozialisation durch die Präsenz von AV-Medien und Computer geprägt ist. Damit soll Wissen über den kulturellen und medialen Wandel bereitgestellt werden. Der Schwerpunkt der Untersuchungen liegt auf dem Begriff der literarischen Bildung, daher sind die Ergebnisse insbesondere relevant für die Bildungsforschung, die Literaturdidaktik, die Pädagogik und die Lese- und Biographieforschung.

In seiner Erzählung "Montauk" (1975) inszeniert Max Frisch autobiografische Fakten mit den Mitteln fiktionaler Literatur; eine Kombination, die sich als Autofiktion beschreiben lässt. Besonders interessant sind die intertextuellen Bezüge, mit denen Frisch in "Montauk" Biografisches erzählt. Denn diese Verweise spielen nicht nur auf andere Texte an, sondern sind in eins damit auch bedeutsam im Hinblick auf jene Teile der Autorbiografie, die nur indirekt und ganz dezent angedeutet werden können. Indem die Studie verschiedene intertextuelle Anspielungen untersucht - etwa auf Philip Roths "My Life as a Man", auf Ingeborg Bachmanns "Undine geht" und ihre Erzählung "Simultan", auf Frischs eigene "Skizze eines Unglücks" oder auch auf die Orestie des Aischylos -, strebt sie ein genaueres Verständnis von Frischs autofiktionaler Selbststilisierung an. So lässt sich die Arbeit am Bild, das Frisch seiner Leserschaft vermitteln wollte, nicht nur dort verfolgen, wo er autobiografische Dokumente retuschiert, um eine etwas geschönte Version seiner Vergangenheit zu präsentieren, sondern auch an der Art und Weise, wie er Bekenntnisse tief unter die Textoberfläche versenkt, ausgesparte Informationen erschliessbar macht oder auch Neues hinzuerfindet - beispielsweise den Namen seiner jungen Begleiterin, Lynn. Besonderes Gewicht erhält in der Studie die gendertheoretisch motivierte Frage nach Frischs Selbstinszenierung als Mann, die größtenteils über die verschiedenen in "Montauk" beschriebenen Liebesbeziehungen zu Frauen verläuft.

Summary:Elegantie lingue latine is the masterpiece of Lorenzo Valla's reflection on language, through which the humanist gave birth to a real re-foundation of Latin. To date we still do not have a modern, scientifically based edition of the text characterising the various editorial phases of the work, on which the author worked for over ten years and which, arbitrarily and by the author's own will, was in circulation long before its official publication. This research is part of a future complete edition of the text: the first complete edition of a book of the "Elegantie" is presented, limited to the fifth book on the "disputatio verborum", based on the examination, albeit partial, of the handwritten tradition and on a global reconsideration of the editorial history work.
