Abstract

Evolutionary computation (EC) involves the study of problem-solving and op- mization techniques inspired by principles of natural evolution and genetics. EC has been able to draw the attention of an increasing number of researchers and practitioners in several ?elds. Evolutionary algorithms have in particular been showntobee?ectivefordi?cultcombinatorialoptimizationproblemsappearing in various industrial, economics, and scienti?c domains. This volume contains the proceedings of EvoCOP 2005, the 5th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization. It was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 30 March-1 April 2005, jointly with EuroGP 2005, the 8th European Conference on Genetic Programming, and the EvoWorkshops 2005, which consisted of the following six individual workshops: EvoBIO, the 3rd European Workshop on Evolutionary Bioinformatics; Evo- COMNET, the 2nd European Workshop on Evolutionary Computation in C- munication, Networks, and Connected Systems; EvoHOT, the 2nd European Workshop on Hardware Optimisation Techniques; EvoIASP, the 7th European Workshop on Evolutionary Computation in Image Analysis and Signal Proce- ing; EvoMUSART, the 3rd European Workshop on Evolutionary Music and Art; and EvoSTOC, the 2nd European Workshop on Evolutionary Algorithms in Stochastic and Dynamic Environments.

Abstract

This volume comprises the proceedings of the 4th Conference on Advanced - cryption Standard, ˜AES State of the Crypto Analysis,' which was held in Bonn, Germany, during 10-12 May 2004. The conference followed a series of events organized by the US National - stitute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in order to hold an international competition to decide on an algorithm to serve as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). In 1998, at the ?rst AES conference (AES 1), 15 di?erent al- rithmswerepresented, discussed, reviewedandveri?ed.Asecondconferencewas organizedinApril1999,andbyAugust1999only?vecandidateswerestillinthe running: MARS, RC6, Rijndael, Serpent and Two?sh. After a further conference devoted to veri?cation, testing and examination of the candidate algorithms in order to prove their performance and security, one winning algorithm remained. The encryption scheme Rijndael, designed by the Belgian cryptographers Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen, was selected in 2000 to become the successor to the famous DES (Data Encryption Standard) and it is now the Advanced - cryption Standard.

Abstract

The papers in this volume were presented at the 9th Workshop on Algorithms and Data Structures (WADS 2005). The workshop took place during August 15 - 17, 2005, at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada. The workshop alternateswith the ScandinavianWorkshopon Algorithm Theory(SWAT), c- tinuing the traditionof SWAT and WADS startingwith SWAT 1988and WADS 1989. From 90 submissions, the Program Committee selected 37 papers for p- sentation at the workshop. In addition, invited lectures were given by the f- lowing distinguished researchers: Allan Borodin and Max J. Egenhofer. OnbehalfoftheProgramCommittee,wewouldliketoexpressoursincere- preciation to the many persons whose e?ort contributed to making WADS 2005 a success. These include the invited speakers, members of the ste- ing and ProgramCommittees, the authors who submitted papers, and the many referees who assisted the ProgramCommittee. We are indebted to Robert Kane forinstallingandmodifyingthesubmissionsoftware, maintainingthesubmission server and interacting with authors as well as for helping with the preparation of the program. Abstract

By presenting state-of-the-art research results on various aspects of formal and visual modeling of software and systems, this book commemorates the 60th birthday of Hartmut Ehrig. The 24 invited reviewed papers are written by students and collaborators of Hartmut Ehrig who are established researchers in their fields. Reflecting the scientific interest and work of Hartmut Ehrig, the papers fall into three main parts on graph transformation, algebraic specification and logic, and formal and visual modeling.

Abstract

The 7th International Conference on Information Security and Cryptology was organized by the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology (KIISC) and was sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Communi- tion of Korea. The conference received 194 submissions, and the Program Committee - lected 34 of these for presentation. The conference program included two invited lectures.MikeReiterspokeonSecurityby,andfor,ConvergedMobileDevices. And Frank Stajano spoke on Security for Ubiquitous Computing. We would like to ?rst thank the many researchers from all over the world who subm- ted their work to this conference. An electronic submission process was ava- able. The submission review process had two phases. In the ?rst phase, Program Committeememberscompiledreports(assistedattheirdiscretionbysubreferees of their choice, but without interaction with other Program Committee m- bers) and entered them, via a Web interface, into the Web Review software. We would like to thank the developers, Bart Preneel, Wim Moreau, and Joris Claessens. Without the Web Review system, the whole review process would not have been possible. In the second phase, Program Committee members used the software to browse each other's reports, and discuss and update their own reports.WeareextremelygratefultotheProgramCommittee membersfortheir enormous investment of time, e?ort, and adrenaline in the di?cult and delicate process of review and selection.

The authors of selected papers had a few weeks to prepare ?nal versions of their papers, aided by comments from the reviewers. However, most of these revisions were not subject to any editorial review. This year, a Best Paper Award was given to Xiaoyun Wang, Yiqun Lisa Yin, and Hongbo Yu, for their paper Finding Collisions in the Full SHA-1. The conference program included two invited lectures. Ralph Merkle del- ered an IACR Distinguished Lecture, entitled The Development of Public Key Cryptography:a PersonalView; and Thoughts on Nanotechnology. Dan Boneh gave an invited talk, entitled Bilinear Maps in Cryptography. We continued the tradition of a rump session, featuring short, informal presentations (usually serious, sometimes entertaining, and occasionally both). ˜ The rump session was chaired this year by Phong Q. Abstract

This volume contains the 75 contributed papers and the abstracts of the three invited lectures presented at the 13th Annual European Symposium on Al- rithms (ESA 2005), held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, October 3-6, 2005. The threedistinguishedinvitedspeakerswereGiuseppeF.Italiano,CristopherMoore and Joseph (Se?) Naor. Since 2002,ESA has consisted of two tracks, with separate programcomm- tees, which dealt respectively with - the designandmathematicalanalysis ofalgorithms(the DesignandAna- sis track); - real-worldapplications, engineering and experimental analysis of algorithms (the Engineering and Applications track). Previous ESAs in the current two track format were held in Rome, Italy (2002);Budapest,Hungary(2003);andBergen,Norway(2004).Theproceedings of these symposia were published as Springer's LNCS volumes 2461, 2832, and 3221 respectively. Papers were solicited in all areas of algorithmic research, including but not limited to algorithmic aspects of networks, approximation and on-line al- rithms, computational biology, computational geometry, computational ?nance and algorithmic game theory, data structures, database and information - trieval, external memory algorithms, graph algorithms, graph drawing, machine learning, mobile computing, pattern matching and data compression, quantum computing, and randomized algorithms. The algorithms could be sequential, distributed, or parallel. Submissions were especially encouraged in the area of mathematical programming and operations research, including combinatorial optimization, integer programming, polyhedral combinatorics, and semide?nite programming.
