A peer-reviewed journal published by Majelis Tarjih dan Tajdid Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah [The Fatwa and Islamic Research Council, The Central Board of Muhammadiyah]. The publication is intended for developing discourses on Islam and Muslim Societies based on practical-academic approaches. The journal, then, covers all aspects of theme and research related to Islam: text, history, doctrine; norm; value; institution, culture, et cetera. As academic discussion, papers published in this journal have no intentions other than to show the variations of Muslims' attitude and their understanding and comprehending on Islam and Islamic doctrines. The themes, however, are only approached for the development of Islamic studies in an academic sphere.

Stable monetary systems form one of the pillars on which rapid economics development in Southeast Asia in recent decades has been based. The same was true in the past. Monetary stabilization became as important issue after 1870, when silver depreciated rapidly against gold and Western countries switched to the gold standard. Colonial Indonesia followed the Netherlands in this respect. On the ardent advice of N.P van den Berg, then president of the central bank, the Java Bank, it was the first Asian country to stabilize its currency against gold, in this case against the gold-based Dutch guilder. Van den Berg was a prominent proponent of monetary stabilization and was well known for his contributions to he dicussion about currency systems and monetary policy in the government of British India, which was at the time exploring ways to achieve stabilization of the rupee. Both the arguments and the wealth of data in the reprint of this very rare book will be of interest to historians of Southeast Asia.

Getuigenis van een Nederlandse vrouw die als jong meisje met heel haar familie in de Japanse concentratiekampen terecht kwam. Het boek vertelt over de gruwelijke levensomstandigheden in de kampen, over de angst, de bijna hongerdood, de vernederingen, dwangarbeid en mishandelingen. Maar ook de bevrijding komt aan bod, de opvang in Singapore en de terugkeer naar het na-oorlogse Nederland, waar weinig begrip was voor wat de landgenoten in Nederlands-Indië hadden meegemaakt.
