Cette publication fait suite au colloque international organisé par l'Université de Fribourg, Suisse (10-11 septembre 2015). Abordant la relation spécifique entre les Égyptiens et le monde des Arthropodes, objet de peur et de vénération, les études réunies ciblent des espèces liées à des divinités (Isis de Coptos, Isis-Selkis, etc.) capables de déjouer leurs nuisances venimeuses ou de guérir de leurs effets (scorpions, mille-pattes), des espèces véhiculant des maladies parasitaires comme le paludisme ou la leishmaniose (moustiques et phlébotomes), des espèces aux caractéristiques anatomiques et éthologiques remarquables employées d'un point de vue conceptuel (scorpion, scarabée et Lanelater de Neith). Une partie de cette approche est consacrée aux nécrophages, ainsi qu'à l'utilisation médico-magique des Arthropodes dans le corpus médical de l'Égypte classique et la pharmacopée de l'Égypte gréco-romaine. This book explores the interaction between animals, plants, and humans in ancient Egypt. It draws together different aspects of the bioarchaeology of Egypt: flora, fauna, and human remains. These come from sites throughout the country from Alexandria to Aswan, as well as material from museum basements.The material presented here includes the results of new and previously unpublished excavations in the Delta and Thebes, in-depth studies of different species of animal mummies, an analysis of animal cults, tentative identifications of wild dogs in Egyptian art, a variety of diseases from which the ancient Egyptians suffered, studies on human remains using traditional as well as state-of-the-art technologies, and the different foods that formed the diet of the ancient Egyptians.The studies blend traditional methodologies, often deployed in novel ways, such as examining the pelage of lions, as well as new 3D technologies used in the analyses of bioarchaeological material. The results of these studies deepen our knowledge of ancient Egypt, its inhabitants, and their interaction with their environment.The present volume is the proceedings of the Conference on the Bioarchaeology of Ancient Egypt & the Second International Symposium on Animals in Ancient Egypt (Cairo, 2019).

Der Band umfasst zehn Beiträge internatio¬naler Autor*innen, die im Rahmen der 10. Tagung des Basler und Berliner Arbeitskreises Junge Aegypto¬logie (BAJA) im Jahr 2019 in Basel vorgestellt und diskutiert wurden. Unter dem Schlagwort „kulturelle Dynamik“ widmen sich die Beiträge geschichts-, kultur-, und religionswissenschaftlichen, linguistischen sowie archäologischen Fragestellungen. Diese werden am Beispiel unterschiedlicher Texte und Objektgattungen der materiellen Kultur aus allen Epochen der ägyptischen Geschichte von der Frühzeit bis in die Spätantike behandelt. Ein rezeptionshistorisch orientierter Beitrag befasst sich zudem mit ägyptisch geprägten Monumenten außerhalb Ägyptens. Einen Ausblick auf die Möglichkeiten der Digital Humanities bietet ein Aufsatz zur modernen Aufarbeitung ägyptischer Textfragmente mithilfe digitaler Methoden. Der Band gewährt einen Überblick zu Ursachen, Prozessen, Akteuren und Zielsetzungen kultureller Dynamik im Alten Ägypten und darüber hinaus.Der Berliner Arbeitskreis Junge Aegyptologie ist ein Forum für deutschsprachige Nachwuchs¬wissenschaftler*innen, das dem Austausch und der Präsentation neuer For-schungsansätze und -ergebnisse in der Ägyptologie dient. Die BAJA-Workshops finden jährlich in Form einer offenen Diskussionsrunde mit Vorträgen zu einem ausgewählten Themen¬bereich statt.
