The Annual is conceived as an academic forum for scholarly debate on Marx and Engels and aims to contribute to the exploration of the encyclopedic oeuvre of the two authors; it is published in conjunction with the Marx-Engels Complete Edition (MEGA). Along with international research articles, the current double volume focusses on Engels on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Les rapports entre marxisme et phénoménologie ont constitué un axe fondamental du débat culturel européen, dans les années 1960 et 1970. Dans la France de l’après-guerre, Sartre et Merleau-Ponty faisaient déjà référence, sur le plan de la fondation théorique, à la tradition phénoménologique de Husserl et de Heidegger, et sur le plan de l’engagement civil, au marxisme. Trần Đức Thảo, élève de Merleau-Ponty, mettra en place dès 1951 une première synthèse de ces deux paradigmes dans son Phénoménologie et matérialisme dialectique. Onze années après, Jean-Toussaint Desanti reviendra sur l’exigence d’une convergence entre phénoménologie et marxisme. En Italie, puis en Allemagne, d’autres tentatives vont émerger. Ce volume a pour ambition de proposer une synthèse sur le sujet. Il vise également à promouvoir une première réflexion historique sur le courant philosophique qui, pendant au moins deux décennies, a occupé la scène intellectuelle, et à évaluer son héritage dans le débat contemporain. The links between Marxism and phenomenology were a fundamental axis of the European cultural debate in the 1960s and 1970s. In post-war France, Sartre and Merleau-Ponty already referred, in terms of theoretical foundation, to the phenomenological tradition of Husserl and Heidegger, and in terms of civil engagement, to Marxism. As early as 1951, Trần Đức Thảo, a student of Merleau-Ponty’s, established a first synthesis of these two paradigms in his Phenomenology and Dialectical Materialism. Eleven years later, Jean-Toussaint Desanti returned to the demand for a convergence between phenomenology and Marxism. Other attempts emerged first in Italy and then in Germany. The aim of this volume is to propose a synthesis on the subject. It also aims to promote an initial historical reflection on the philosophical current which, for at least two decades, has occupied the intellectual scene, and to evaluate its legacy in contemporary debate.

Aucun principe du marxisme ne semble plus fondamental que la division de la société en classes sociales. La classe, l'intérêt de classe, la lutte des classes, l´histoire de la lutte des classes semblent constituer l'alpha et l'oméga de la théorie marxiste. Pourtant, l'œuvre principale de Marx ne s'intitule pas « La Classe » et ne commence pas par cette catégorie, mais plutôt par celles de la marchandise et de la forme-valeur. Et si Le Capital s'achève bien par la déduction systématique des classes, cette position révèle que les classes sont en fin de compte une catégorie secondaire et dérivée dans le riche appareillage théorique du Marx de la maturité : les classes sociales ont en fait un lien étroit avec la théorie du fétichisme de la marchandise. Or, quelles que soient ses variantes, le marxisme traditionnel a mis sens dessus dessous cette relation entre les catégories de base du capitalisme et leurs enveloppes sociologiques. Les classes ont été prises à tort pour des sujets dépourvus d'aprioris sociaux et semblaient alors subsumer l'ensemble des catégories reproductives du capital sous la raison dernière d'une subjectivité sociologique. Dans un texte incisif et fondateur pour le renouveau de la gauche anticapitaliste, Robert Kurz et Ernst Lohoff prennent le parti de remettre sur pieds l´étincelante critique marxienne de l´économie politique dans son rapport aux classes sociales, à partir d´un commentaire précis de l´œuvre de la maturité de Marx, et ce, par-delà son travestissement en un sociologisme superficiel affirmatif et une métaphysique du sujet prolétarien révolutionnaire

In the 1960s, the French philosopher Louis Althusser (1918-1990) began to use the philosophy of Spinoza (1632-1677) in order to expand and transform theoretical tools from Marxist tradition. But how did the reference to a seventeenth century Dutch philosopher come to impose itself on a French Marxist philosopher of the second half of the twentieth? What are the issues and effects of this rereading? This thesis thus proposes to answer the question "what is it to practice philosophy as a Spinozist after Althusser?" in three steps: 1) reconstructing the genesis of Althusser's Spinozism; 2) showing the consistency of Althusser's thought around this Spinozist reference; 3) bringing to light the too often unrecognized ethical-political dimension of this “theoreticist” Spinozism. Althusserian Spinozism then appears as an unprecedented way of problematizing the relationship between knowledge and emancipation in a way that is not that of an ontological discourse aimed at identifying the subject to the locus of Truth, but rather must be conceived as a collective strategy of detaching oneself from subjective determinations though an a-centric, a-subjective and de-specularizing theoretical practice process producing complex concepts. Contrary to the image of an Althusser trying to philosophically ground the scientificity of Marxism in order to guarantee the rightness of communist politics, we show how the becoming-Spinozist of Althusser detaches Spinoza from the image of the dogmatic thinker of the “identity in God”, and turns him into the author of a philosophy of the heterogeneous, the "anti-humanist" agent of a critique of fixist attachments to the repetition of the Same supposed to guarantee subjective identity in historical action, and a ethico-political thinker calling for the constitution of a new practice of philosophy as an operation of desubstantialization of identities and despecularization of the subjective relationship to history. À partir des années 1960, le philosophe Louis Althusser (1918-1990) commence à se réclamer de la philosophie de Spinoza (1632-1677) pour repenser les outils théoriques issus du marxisme. Mais comment la référence à un philosophe hollandais du XVIIe siècle en est-elle venue à s’imposer à un philosophe français de la seconde moitié du XXe ? Quels sont les enjeux et les effets de cette relecture ? Cette thèse propose ainsi de répondre à la question « qu’est-ce que pratiquer la philosophie en spinoziste après Althusser ? » en trois temps : 1) reconstruire la genèse du spinozisme d’Althusser ; 2) montrer la consistance de la pensée d’Althusser autour du référent spinoziste ; 3) mettre au jour les enjeux éthico-politiques trop souvent méconnus de ce spinozisme « théoriciste » d’Althusser. Ce spinozisme apparaît alors comme manière inédite de problématiser le rapport entre savoir et émancipation sur un mode qui ne soit pas celui d’un discours ontologique visant l’identification du sujet au lieu de la vérité, mais soit plutôt conçu comme stratégie collective de dessaisie de soi comme sujet dans un processus de pratique théorique acentré, asubjectif et déspécularisant par production de concepts complexes et supplémentaires. À rebours de l’image d’un Althusser s’efforçant de fonder philosophiquement la scientificité du marxisme afin de garantir la justesse de la politique communiste, nous montrons en quoi le devenir-spinoziste d’Althusser arrache du même coup Spinoza à son image d’Épinal de penseur dogmatique de l’identité en Dieu, pour en faire l’auteur d’une philosophie de l’hétérogène, l’agent « anti-humaniste » d’une critique de dissolution des attachements fixistes à la répétition du Même supposé garantir l’identité subjective dans l’action historique, et en appelant à la constitution d’une nouvelle pratique de la philosophie comme opération de désubstantialisation des identités et de déspécularisation du rapport subjectif à l’histoire.

El presente libro es una recopilación de ensayos en torno a la historia internacional del socialismo. El volumen reúne 20 ensayos producidos por las y los integrantes del equipo de investigación sobre historia del socialismo del Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios sobre Cultura y Sociedad (CIECS), un organismo dependiente del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) y de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina. Los trabajos reunidos en este volumen tienen en común no sólo su preocupación por rescatar la historia del socialismo y del movimiento obrero, sino su enfoque explícitamente marxista. El marxismo es mucho más que un marco teórico académico: es una guía para la acción revolucionaria. El propósito de estos ensayos, por ende, no es sólo aplicar las herramientas teóricas del materialismo histórico al análisis de distintos aspectos de la historia del socialismo y de la teoría marxista, sino ante todo contribuir a la lucha por la emancipación de los trabajadores de la explotación capitalista.
