Hauptbeschreibung Over the years Dubai has become a cultural melting pot as people go there pursuing career and prosperity. To work and live in such an inhomogeneous environment can be very challenging due to different cultural expectations and values. Only if these differences are acknowledged for what they are, people will coexist harmoniously. This thesis aims to find out how people with different nationalities and cultures are able to adapt to a new culturally-blended environment, to which extent they are willing to compromise or change their way of thinking and which parts

"This collection argues for the need to promote intercultural understanding as a clear goal for teaching and learning pragmatics in second and foreign language education. The volume sees the learning of pragmatics as a challenging yet enriching process whereby the individual expands their capacity for understanding how meaning making processes influence social relationships and how assumptions about social relationships shape the interpretation and use of language in context. This locates pragmatics within a humanistically oriented conception of learning where success is defined relative to the enrichment of human understanding and appreciation of difference. The book argues that intercultural understanding is not an "add on" to language learning but central to the learner's ability to understand and construct meaning with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Chapters analyse teachers' and learners' ways of making sense of pragmatics, how their assumptions about social relationships impact their perceptions of language use, and how reflection on pragmatic judgments opens up possibilities for developing intercultural understanding. This book will be of interest to students and scholars in intercultural communication, language education, and applied linguistics"--

Series: Media i Kultura (1), ISSN 2719-9789 The texts composed in the monograph, however different in assumptions, in the adopted methodology, in the choice of (sometimes point) material that has become the basis for the diagnoses, enter into mutual interactions, creating a space for the participation of cultural researches and and cultural practices. The articles collected in the first part of the volume present a variety of conceptualization of cultural texts, recognize moduses and effects of joining its heritage, point out aspects of its co-creation and use, exhibit and critically analyze the variety of ways of participating in culture. The second part of the volume was dominated by reflections on the situation (and transformation) of the subject, culture, its recipients, and finally: the entire humanities in contemporary media reality. The basic context of the phenomena discussed here by the authors is the digital revolution, the effects of which are still not fully perceptible to us. This situation not only forces researchers to develop new tools and methodologies, but also provokes to ask questions about the opportunities and threats posed by new technologies in building (post) human identity, modifying social communication principles and establishing relationships between high and low culture.

This book examines the complex and multidimensional relationship between culture and social media, and its specific impact on issues of identity and social movements, in a globalized world. Contemporary cyber culture involves communication among people who are culturally, nationally, and linguistically similar or radically different. Social media becomes a space for mediated cultural information transfer which can either facilitate a vibrant public sphere or create cultural and social cleavages. Contributors of the book come from diverse cultural backgrounds to provide a comprehensive analysis of how these social media exchanges allow members of traditionally oppressed groups find their voices, cultivate communities, and construct their cultural identities in multiple ways. This book will be of great relevance to scholars and students working in the field of media and new media studies, intercultural communication, especially critical intercultural communication, and academics studying social identity and social movements.
