Graduating from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s, Martin Margiela (and his contemporaries in the Antwerp Six) transformed global fashion with his aggressive restatement of traditional fashion design and a polemical approach to luxury trends. Working first with the house of Gaultier, Margiela absorbed the radical design of Japanese deconstruction, making it wholly his own with the founding of his own label in 1988. Margiela propounds a singular, enigmatic look, moving beyond the recognizable tropes of deconstruction—a monochromatic palette, outsized garments, non-traditional fabrics, exposed seams, or roughly appliquéd details—to develop a fully considered worldview, one with elegance, mystery, and menace in equal measure. This book provides an inside look at the design process from a craftsman who creates pieces prized for their originality, delicacy, and daring. In the spirit of Margiela’s garments, the book is a work of art in itself, designed exclusively by Margiela and complete with silver inks, ribbon markers, a variety of lush paper types, twelve booklets, and an embroidered white-linen cover. This book provides a window onto the intimate, handmade world of a unique designer.

Dirk Bikkembergs, notorious member of the famous Antwerp Six, is one of Belgium’s best internationally known fashion designers. He has always made his way, but with his unique combination of fashion and football, which he started 10 years ago, he really had his breakthrough. Linking football and fashion is unique because they are both entirely different worlds, and still they match perfectly. How come? It’s simple: Bikkembergs provides haute couture for athletes, who are, already in themselves, aesthetic symbols. Ever since, Bikkembergs pursued this idea and pushed it further every time he created a new collection. He even bought his own football team to experiment with. Football and fashion became his trademark, and a great combination of haute couture and popular lifestyle.

This definitive publication on Alexander McQueen (1969 - 2010) invites you into the creative mind and world of one of Britain's most brilliant, daring and provocative designers, and the many themes and references that shaped his visionary fashion collections. Accompanying the V & A's landmark exhibition 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty', and taking the key themes of the exhibition of tailoring, gothic, primitivism, naturalism and futurism, this comprehensive catalogue features previously unseen material as well as groundbreaking essays and feature spreads by multiple authors and leading fashion commentators. One of the most thought-provoking and influential designers in the world – she once declared ‘the only reason I’m in fashion is to destroy the word “conformity”’ – Vivienne Westwood has been reinventing, changing and challenging the world of fashion for over five decades. Celebrating forty years of catwalk collections, this book records the inimitable creations imagined by Vivienne Westwood since her first runway show in 1981, as well as those designed by her husband and long-time collaborator, Andreas Kronthaler. Complete with an introduction and collection texts by Alexander Fury, and biographies written by the designers themselves, Vivienne Westwood Catwalk offers a rare opportunity to chart the development of a uniquely creative fashion house.
