Dieser Band verfolgt zwei Grundabsichten. Im ersten Teil beleuchtet er den Sinn des Transzendentalen bei Husserl und Heidegger. Hierzu werden – vor dem Hintergrund des Fichteschen transzendentalen Idealismus – „konstruktive“ Elemente im Denken der beiden Gründerväter der Phänomenologie aufgewiesen. Diese werden im Lichte der Fragen nach Sinn und Status des „Phänomens“, der „Zeit“ und der „Ermöglichung“ behandelt. Im zweiten Teil zielt er, weniger in historiographischer als in systematischer Absicht, auf die Begründung sowohl einer phänomenologischen Metaphysik als auch einer phänomenologischen Anthropologie ab. Hierfür werden – u. a. in Bezug auf neuere Veröffentlichungen Hans Blumenbergs und Marc Richirs – Grundzüge einer Phänomenologie der Reflexion und der Erkenntnis sowie einer den „homo imaginans“ in den Mittelpunkt stellenden Phänomenologie des Menschen entworfen.
