Pour les communautés francophones en situation minoritaire (CFSM), l'offre active des services de santé et des services sociaux en français est une question de qualité, de sécurité, d'humanisation des soins et services, de droit et d'équité, et d'éthique professionnelle. Les enjeux liés à la formation postsecondaire et aux ressources humaines, notamment au recrutement et à la rétention des professionnels, sont particulièrement importants, car il est essentiel de former des leaders capables d'intervenir efficacement et de soutenir une meilleure organisation des milieux de travail.  Ainsi, cet ouvrage combine la théorie et les données empiriques pour se diriger vers l'action afin de permettre aux futurs professionnels de mieux saisir les enjeux de l'accessibilité et de l'offre active de services en français qui se posent en milieu de travail. During the Jim Crow era, Florida's public health nurses, mostly white and a few black women, tackled the state's public health issues born of race, climate, geography, and poverty. These pioneering professional women were often the only ones available to deliver current health improvement information into the homes of people who were out of the reach of modern medical care. They found innovative ways to build a bridge between the communities they served and public health policies, both state and federal, that addressed the threats of infection and the high infant and maternal mortality levels. Competing cultural constructions of health shaped their groundbreaking efforts to reach and serve underprivileged members of each race, whether to prevent illness and disease or to improve childbirth and general wellbeing.

The idea that there is such a thing as a human right to health has become pervasive. It has not only been acknowledged by a variety of international law documents and thus entered the political realm but is also defended in academic circles. Yet, despite its prominence the human right to health remains something of a mystery - especially with respect to its philosophical underpinnings. Addressing this unfortunate and intellectually dangerous insufficiency, this book critically assesses the stipulation that health is a human right which - as international law holds - derives from the inherent dignity of the human person. Scrutinising the concepts underlying this stipulation (health, rights, dignity), it shall conclude that such right cannot be upheld from a philosophical perspective.
