Abstract

The first part of "Screw Compressors" gives a review of recent developments in screw compressor design. The second part presents a generalized mathematical definition of screw machine rotors and describes some well known lobe shapes in detail. The third part treats the mathematical modelling of the thermodynamics and fluid mechanics of compression and expansion processes. This includes discussion of the issues addressed in order to be able to predict the optimum rotor size and speed and built-in volume ratio and, in the case of oil flooded machines, the injection position and jet diameter. The fourth and fifth parts discuss the principles used and describe the application of the analytical procedures and rotor profiling techniques, presented in the earlier chapters, to the design of a number of twin screw compressors, currently manufactured including the examples of combining expansion and compression in the same machine.

Abstract

Hedendaagse elektrische installaties, zowel in industrie als dienstensector benutten veel niet-lineaire verbruikers (recente compacte fluo lampen, snelheidsgeregelde aandrijvingen, IT-equipment, …) vaak vanuit het oogpunt van rationeel energiegebruik. Deze belastingen onttrekken vervormde stromen, die aanleiding kunnen geven tot overbelasting van de nulgeleider en verhoogde verliezen in de installatieonderdelen. Ten gevolge van dit grootschalig gebruik van niet-lineaire verbruikers, dringt de noodzaak zich op hiermee rekening te houden bij de uitbating van de elektrische installatie. Bovendien leiden deze extra verliezen ook tot een extra meerkost. De eindgebruiker heeft geen idee van de grootte van de verliezen in voedingskabels. Nochtans betekenen deze kabelverliezen een aanzienlijk deel (3%-5%) van het totale verbruik in de installatie. Bovendien is men vaak niet bewust van de verhoogde verliezen ten gevolge van het niet-lineair verbruik. Dit proefschrift onderzoekt de invloed van vervormde stromen op het kabelverlies, uitgaande van het stroomspectrum. Echter, in de praktijk beïnvloeden, ten gevolge van de netimpedantie, stroom als spanning elkaar. Het stroomspectrum van een niet-lineaire verbruiker is afhankelijk van het gebruikte voedingssysteem, met overeenkomstig verschillende kabelverliezen. Aan de hand van een vergelijkende studie van de voedingssystemen wordt dan de kwantificering van de verschillen in kabelverliezen doorgevoerd. De invloed van het niet-lineair verbruik op de kabelverliezen wordt vervolgens geanalyseerd met het oog op het bepalen van een vereenvoudigd model om de verliezen op een snelle manier te bepalen. Het voorgestelde model maakt gebruik van een equivalente wisselstroomweerstand die, uitgaande van de gelijkstroomweerstand, een frequentie- en spectrumafhankelijk correctiefactor inhoudt. Het model wordt gevalideerd door labo- en on the field metingen. De bekomen afwijkingen liggen binnen een marge van 5%, wat aantoont dat het vooropgesteld model toepasbaar is binnen een breed toepassingsdomein. Nowadays non linear loads (compact fluorescent lamps, variable speed drives,…), mostly used with the aim of rational energy use, are widely used in both industry and office buildings. These loads, producing harmonic currents, may yield to high neutral conductor currents and generate increased losses in supply systems. Due to the increasing number of non linear applications, one is obliged to take this influence into account when using an electrical installation. This losses represent an extra cost as well. Users have no idea of the magnitude of the cable power losses in their electrical installations. Nevertheless cable power losses can be a significant part (3%-5%) of the total power consumption. Moreover, one is seldom aware of the increase of cable losses due to the nonlinear load. This work investigates the influence of current harmonics on cable losses for a given current spectrum. However in practice, due to the grid impedance, both current spectrum and voltage spectrum are linked. Each specific supply system configuration corresponds to a different harmonic current and voltage spectrum in all system elements, and a different loss distribution over the system. Consequently, the influence of the system configuration has to be analysed in order to quantify the differences in cable losses. The power losses in LV cables are analyzed, including the impact of nonlinear loads. A simple model is proposed in order to calculate power losses in a quick way. The model uses an equivalent resistance, taking into account frequency dependency by means of a correction factor only depending on the conductor cross section and the current harmonic spectrum. The model is validated by experiments. Deviations less than 5% are found. Because of the suitability of the model for a wide range of harmonic spectra, power losses can be easily calculated. De hedendaagse elektrische apparaten zoals spaarlampen, computersystemen, snelheidregelingen enz., zowel in industrie als dienstensector maken veelal gebruik van vermogenelektronica. Deze apparaten onttrekken niet-sinusvormige stromen, die aanleiding kunnen geven tot overbelasting en extra verliezen in de elektrische installatie. Ten gevolge van het grootschalig gebruik van deze verbruikers dient bij de opbouw van de installatie hiermee rekening gehouden te worden. De extra verliezen die hierdoor veroorzaakt worden geven aanleiding tot een extra meerkost, waar de eindverbruiker niet bewust van is. Dit proefschrift onderzoekt de invloed van de hedendaagse elektrische apparatuur op de toename van de verliezen in de elektrische installatie, rekening houdend met de belangrijkste invloedsparameters. Aan de hand van een vergelijkende studie wordt dan de kwantificering van de energieverliezen doorgevoerd. Hiervoor wordt een vereenvoudigd model voorgesteld om de verliezen op een snelle manier te bepalen. Het model maakt gebruik van een equivalente weerstand die een correctiefactor in rekening brengt en breed toepasbaar is. Het voorgesteld model wordt gevalideerd door metingen. This work investigates the influence of modern electric loads on the increase of losses in the electric installation, with respect to the most important influencing parameters. By means of a comparing study the quantification of energy losses is carried out. A simple model is proposed in order to calculate power losses in a quick way. The model uses an equivalent resistance, who’s taking to account a correction factor. The model is validated by experiments.
