After long neglect, the issue of poverty returned to political discourse after the 1970s in France and West Germany. Encapsulated by the catchword "the new poverty," material states of deprivation now came into focus as they persisted domestically despite economic growth and the expansion of the social state. The study analyzes this discourse and examines the reasons for the political rediscovery of poverty.

This book addresses the viability of the EU economic and social model within and after the global economic crisis. It identifies four key issues which warrant further discussion: (1) the asymmetry of the legal and policy framework of the euro and potential recalibration; (2) substantive tensions between the EU 'economic constitution' and its normative aim of social justice and impacts on national policy; (3) the role of civil society, including the two sides of industry in overcoming these tensions and (4) the EU's global aspirations towards the creation of a viable socio-economic model. After the end of World War II when many Southeast Asian nations gained national independence, and up until the Asian Financial Crisis, film industries here had distinctive and colourful histories shaped by unique national and domestic conditions. 'Southeast Asia on Screen: From Independence to Financial Crisis (1945-1998)' addresses the similar themes, histories, trends, technologies and sociopolitical events that have moulded the art and industry of film in this region, identifying the unique characteristics that continue to shape cinema, spectatorship and Southeast Asian filmmaking in the present and the future. Bringing together scholars across the region, chapters explore the conditions that have given rise to today's burgeoning Southeast Asian cinemas as well as the gaps that manifest as temporal belatedness

The aim of my HEC Liege Master Thesis is to provide the reader with an overview of the main measures adopted by the European Union in response to the virus COVID-19 crisis which began in the first months of 2020. The European Union institutions immediately reacted to the pandemic outbreak using existing instruments or creating new ones. The text will present the details of each measure, with a complete overview on the role and the processes related to it. In particular, I focused my studies and analysis on the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), a controversial instrument for which there has been a lot of discussions during the months of lockdown and which still creates very conflicting reactions. The historic agreement that Europe reached during the European Council of July 2020, the birth of the "Recovery fund" and its characteristics will also be covered. The reactions, the requirements and the needs of some European Member States are defined in this text, together with a particular focus on Italy, the most affected country by the COVID-19 pandemic. Italy, in fact, at the moment of writing, is still trying to figure out the best strategies to adopt to face the emergency, suffering from an internal government tension that does not allow the country to quickly adopt a choice. Through this text, I have tried to express my own opinion on some of the country’s available options. My elaborates terminates with personal considerations on the future of Europe following this Pandemic crisis.
