Abstract

La historia de la diplomacia medieval es una temática en proceso de renovacíon metodológica. Por ello pretendemos realizar un estado de la cuestíon en la que se tienen en cuenta las nuevas tendencias historiográficas, la gran diversidad de fuentes disponibles (documentos de archivo, crónicas, libros de viajes...), la sociología de los protagonistas (eclesiásticos, letrados, notarios, espías ...) y los diversos contextos políticos que ejercieron la diplomacia (papapdo, reinos, ciudades ...). Para ello, reunimos una selección de aportaciones de algunos de los principales especialistas y de jóvenes investigadores que tienen proyetos de investigación en activo sobre la temática.

Abstract

This book illustrates how social media platforms enable us to understand everyday politics and evaluates the extent to which they can foster accountability, transparency and responsiveness. The first part focuses on accountability and tests whether the offline behavior of politicians is consistent with their online declarations, showing that textual analysis of politicians’ messages is useful to explain phenomena such as endorsements, party splits and appointments to cabinet. The second part concerns responsiveness. By means of sentiment analysis, it investigates the shape of the interaction between citizens and politicians determining whether politicians’ behavior is influenced by the pressure exerted on social media both on policy and non-policy issues. Finally, the book evaluates whether a responsive behavior is successful in restoring online political trust, narrowing the gap between voters and political elites. The book will be of use to students, scholars and practitioners interested in party organization, intra-party politics, legislative politics, social media analysis and political communication, as well as politicians themselves.

Abstract

Th is book analyzes the impact of social media on democracy and politics at the subnational level in developed and developing countries. Over the last decade or so, social media has transformed politics. Off ering political actors opportunities to organize, mobilize, and connect with constituents, voters, and supporters, social media has become an important tool in global politics as well as a force for democracy. Most of the available research literature focuses on the impact of social media at the national level; this book fills that gap by analyzing the political uses of social media at the sub-national level. Th e book is divided into two parts. Part One, “Social Media for Democracy” includes chapters that analyze potential contributions of social media tools to the realizing of basic values of democracy, such as public engagement, transparency, accountability, participation and collaboration at the sub-national level. Part Two, “Social Media in Politics” focuses on the use of social media tools by political actors in political processes and activities (online campaigns, protests etc.) at the local, regional and state government levels during election and non-election periods. Combining theoretical and empirical analysis, each chapter provides evaluations of overarching issues, questions, and problems as well as real-world experiences with social media, politics, and democracy in a diverse sample of municipalities. Th is volume will be of use to graduate students, academicians, and researchers, in several disciplines and fi elds, such as public administration, political science, ICT, sociology, communication studies and public policy as well as politicians and practitioners.

Abstract

This book explores the changes in political communication in light of the development of a public opinion mediated by web 2.0 technologies. One of the most important changes in political communication is related to the process of disintermediation, i.e. the process by which digital technologies allow citizens to compete in the public space with those agents who, traditionally, co-opted public opinion. However, while disintermediation has undeniably generated a number of advances, having linked citizens to the public debate, the authors highlight some aspects where disintermediation is moving away from a rational and inclusive public space. They argue that these aspects, related to the immediacy, polarization and incivility of the communication, obscure the possibilities for democratization of digital political communication. José Manuel Robles-Morales is a lecturer at the Sociology III Department at Complutense University, Spain. His research focuses on digital political participation, digital political theory, and technological differences (digital divide). His publications have appeared in journals such as Information Communication and Society, The European Journal of Communication Research, Revista Internacional de Sociología and Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas. Ana María Córdoba-Hernández is Research and Faculty Head at the Faculty of Communication at the University of La Sabana, Colombia. Her research focuses on media, specifically in the context of international communication, digital political participation, the transformation of the network society and the analysis of socio-political phenomena across social networks.

Quatrième de couverture : "Le 12 mars 2020, je suis contacté pour commenter les décisions du Conseil national de sécurité au JT du soir. Problème, j’ai prévu de passer la soirée avec ma fille de 17 ans. Elle m’accompagne à la RTBF et je lui dis que ce sera juste une intervention de trois minutes. Sauf que le Conseil traîne et je me retrouve embarqué dans un direct de près de trois heures durant lesquelles il faut meubler. Sur le plateau, nous parlons des épidémies qui révèlent les failles des sociétés, de la place des experts dans les décisions politiques, des incertitudes scientifiques, de l’importance de la communication. Sans le savoir, nous dessinons les contours d’une crise dont nous ne mesurons encore ni la longueur ni la profondeur. Durant des mois, plongé dans la tempête dans laquelle se mêleront science en mouvement, hypermédiatisation et pouvoir politique, j’ai essayé de tenir un cap. Celui de comprendre ce qui nous arrive, de le partager en des termes simples sans en trahir la complexité, de dire ce que l’on sait sans verser dans l’alarmisme ni banaliser les drames. Ce livre témoigne de mon expérience et expose mes réflexions sur les enjeux de cette crise, la réponse qui y a été donnée et ce que nous pouvons en apprendre."

Abstract

Chaque élection attire le regard des citoyens sur la communication politique.
