Recent years have witnessed considerable speculation about the potential of open data to bring about wide-scale transformation. The bulk of existing evidence about the impact of open data, however, focuses on high-income countries. Much less is known about open data's role and value in low- and middle-income countries, and more generally about its possible contributions to economic and social development. Open Data for Developing Economies features in-depth case studies on how open data is having an impact across the developing world-from an agriculture initiative in Colombia to data-driven healthcare projects in Uganda and South Africa to crisis response in Nepal. The analysis built on these case studies aims to create actionable intelligence regarding: (a) the conditions under which open data is most (and least) effective in development, presented in the form of a Periodic Table of Open Data; (b) strategies to maximize the positive contributions of open data to development; and (c) the means for limiting open data's harms on developing countries.

Data Science (DS) is gaining significant importance in the decision process due to a mix of various areas, including Computer Science, Machine Learning, Math and Statistics, domain/business knowledge, software development, and traditional research. In the business field, DS's application allows using scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data to support the decision process. After collecting the data, it is crucial to discover the knowledge. In this step, Knowledge Discovery (KD) tasks are used to create knowledge from structured and unstructured sources (e.g., text, data, and images). Depuis que les principes d’ouverture des données ont été affirmés au niveau européen, comme sur le plan national, au service d’une politique de la recherche et de l’innovation particulièrement volontariste, les données de la recherche scientifique sont progressivement devenues un véritable objet de droit. Représentant les données recueillies ou produites à l’occasion d’une activité de recherche scientifique, les données de la recherche ne relèvent pas d’un dispositif légal et réglementaire unique au sein du droit positif européen ou français. Leur gouvernance suppose donc que soient convoquées et maîtrisées un ensemble hétérogène de règles.S’appuyant sur la chronologie propre au cycle de vie des données, mais également sur les pratiques développées au sein des communautés disciplinaires, l’ouvrage se propose de comprendre l’environnement juridique des données de la recherche, avant de présenter les règles qui s’appliquent successivement aux opérations d’acquisition et de collecte, puis de diffusion et de partage et, enfin, de réutilisation et de valorisation des données.Il s’adresse aux universitaires, chercheurs, doctorants, praticiens du droit (juristes ou avocats) qui ont non seulement à organiser la gouvernance des données de la recherche, mais également à décider de leur sécurisation, conservation, accès, diffusion ou exploitation.
