Abstract

A top management team (TMT) matters for its organization, right? While researchers have established that TMTs do "matter," the ways in which TMTs do that are complex and opaque. This book outlines how a TMT can matter most for its organization, and it does so in a positive way by considering the most recent academic and practical insights. Two factors are critical: (1) inside the boardroom, TMT members' behavior determines the quality of strategic decisions, and (2) outside the boardroom, the way in which the TMT works with middle managers is crucial for the subsequent implementation of those decisions. Understanding how these two factors can be effectively performed can help TMT members, middle managers, team coaches, HR practitioners, and so on to grasp the complex mechanisms of TMT impact.

Abstract

Was können Führungskräfte aus den Erkenntnissen der Neurowissenschaften lernen, um ihren Job noch besser als bislang zu machen? Das Buch wendet sich an Führungskräfte, Berater, Trainer, Wissenschaftler sowie Studierende der Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Wirtschaftspsychologie. Neurowissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse können hilfreich sein, um Führungskräften neue Sicht- und Denkweisen zu vermitteln - und dadurch deren Führungseffektivität zu erhöhen. Die vorliegende Publikation verdeutlicht, wie es gelingen kann, mittels eines Neuroleadership sowohl Leistungsprobleme zu lösen, wie auch die Gesundheit der Führungskräfte und Mitarbeiter zu fördern, was sich - zusammengenommen - wiederum nachhaltig positiv auf die Leistungserstellung und somit auf den Unternehmenserfolg auswirkt. In diesem Zusammenhang bietet das vorliegende Buch folgende neuartige Perspektiven:1. Überwindung des Empiriedefizits: Diese Publikation dient zunächst dazu, das vorhandene Empiriedefizit zum Thema "Neuroleadership" zu überwinden: Einerseits werden die Vorhersagen von zwei "prominenteren" Ansätzen des Neuroleadership, nämlich das SCARF-Modell von David Rock wie auch die Konsistenztheorie von Klaus Grawe in Bezug auf die Frage geprüft, ob Neuroleadership ein Ansatz ist, mit dem Leistung und Gesundheit gefördert werden kann. Hierzu wurde eine empirische Studie mit mehr als 900 berufstätigen Personen durchgeführt. Andererseits werden mittels einer Unternehmensfallstudie die Aussagen des SCARF-Modells dadurch validiert, dass Mitarbeiterurteile mit denen von Führungskräften verglichen werden.2. Aufhebung der einseitigen Führer-Geführten-Perspektive: Die bisherige Neuroleadership-Argumentation zeichnet sich in weiten Teilen dadurch aus, dass eine große Nähe zu situativen Ansätzen der Personalführung existiert: Die Führungskraft steht im Mittelpunkt des Geschehens und optimiert - im Kontext eines solchen Führungsverständnisses - das Leistungsverhalten ihrer Mitarbeiter dadurch, dass sie die unterschiedlichen, jetzt neurobiologisch begründeten Bedürfnisse ihrer Mitarbeiter berücksichtigt. Hier wird gerade in Hinblick auf Führungskräfte verdeutlicht, wie deren eigenen Interpretationsvorlieben, Sprachgewohnheiten und Weltbilder die eigene Effektivität fördern - oder aber auch reduzieren können. 3. Transfer zur Unternehmensführung: Es wird gezeigt, welche Beziehungen zwischen den aus den empirischen Studien abgeleiteten Prinzipien eines Neuroleadership zu Befunden erfolgreicher Unternehmenspraxis bestehen. Abstract

In this book we explore the influence of gender on organizational performance in the health care sector. The authors argue that gender diversity of boards improves health care organizational performance when compared to homogeneous boards. The theoretical framework used was developed from conducting literature reviews of scholarly academic journal articles on gender, boards, and organizational performance as well as performing an in-depth study of the performance of health care organizations in Ontario, Canada. Research results suggest that effective boards and their composition were dependent on their female-to-male ratio to realize administrative efficiencies. Publicly funded, nonprofit, 126 acute care hospitals located in Ontario, Canada, were chosen as the health care sector for this research. Limitations of this study are in the complexity of the health care industry, competing internal and external priorities, and funding constraints. Nevertheless, this book is original work and relevant for use by boards to examine the complementary mix of gender as a predictor of organizational performance.

Even though the level of entrepreneurial activity and its diversity have been motivated through public policies, social support has also played an important role in encouraging people to think of entrepreneurship as a desirable career choice. This book brings together analyses of those elements required for entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial intention and action, which ultimately become important leverages of development. Chapters highlight the importance of rural, urban, university, organizational, and family environments for a bunch of intentions and behaviors such as green, sport, social, corporate, innovative, traditional, and gender entrepreneurship. This entrepreneurial diversity is translated into higher development through the empowerment of women, environmental consciousness, and efficient production. Policymakers, scholars, and practitioners can find different examples and cases useful for decision-making, learning, and practice in this book.
