Abstract

Virtual reality (VR) is an emergent technology that has the potential to revolutionize the tourism industry. It allows consumers to experience a destination virtually and provides opportunities for tourism marketers to communicate with consumers and increase visitors. A large number of studies have explored the characteristics and features of VR technology in the tourism field, but none have investigated the impact of traveler’s motivations and constraints on the acceptance of VR technology in the destination marketing context. Based on an exploratory literature review and a quantitative study involving 115 participants, this study highlights the impact of curiosity and perceived risk to travel on technological acceptance of VR. The findings suggest that tourists are ready to use VR technology to explore a destination virtually before visiting it. Moreover, curiosity is a strong motivation for using VR tourism, unlike perceived risk. This study provides empirical evidence on the importance of using VR technology in the tourism context, as a promotional and selling tool. Theoretical and managerial implications, as well assuggestions for further study, are given as a result.

Abstract

Abstract

The non-existence of Islamic bank in Belgium might make us wonder: what would Muslims inBelgium think if one Islamic bank decides to open an office in Belgium? What would be thedeterminant factors that potential customers would use if they wanted to adopt Islamic bankingservices? The aim of this thesis is to answer these questions. In order to do that, the relevant literature isreviewed in order to identify important decision-making factors from prior studies. After havingidentified these factors, a preliminary qualitative study is carried out to check if there are otherinfluencing factors that were not found in the literature. This qualitative study is in the form ofin-depth interviews with 10 people. Then, with the results of the literature review and the qualitative study, hypotheses will be testedwith the means of a quantitative study in the form of an online questionnaire. Six determinantsfactors will be tested, these are: religious beliefs, quality of services, image, subjective socialnorms, perceived ease of use and perceived utility. Multiple linear regression analysis willdetermine which factors have a significant impact on the intention to use Islamic bankingservices. Thanks to this analysis, managers as well as ourselves will see what are the chances of Islamicbanking in Belgium and what needs to be done in the future so that the demand of Islamic banksin Belgium is met.

Abstract

With the rapid advances in technology, the service sector is currently experiencing huge transformations. Among other technologies, service robots are expected to profoundly change the service encounter. This promising technology is making its way into various service industries and is said to have the ability to enhance customer experience, offer faster services, optimize operations, and reduce labor costs. However, the integration of service robots poses a new challenge: their adoption by frontline employees (FLEs). Despite the growing knowledge regarding customers’ acceptance of service robots, little is known about the perceptions of FLEs. Yet, it is crucial that FLEs adopt a positive attitude toward service robots in order to work successfully alongside them. This study therefore aims to understand FLEs’ acceptance of and resistance to service robots by determining the predictors of their attitude toward working with them. Based on a review of the existing literature on technology infusion in customer service, FLEs, and service robots, this work presents an integrative framework which builds upon the technology acceptance model (TAM) and examines the influence of potential drivers, barriers, and other FLE-based factors on FLEs’ attitude. The results of an online survey revealed that perceived usefulness and perceived sociability positively influenced attitude, while job insecurity negatively influenced it. Nevertheless, perceived ease of use, anthropomorphism, and anxiety were not found to be significant predictors of attitude. Furthermore, significant evidence was found regarding the influence of gender on attitude. In contrast, the influence of innovativeness, robot-related experience, and age on attitude was not supported. This research concludes with a number of implications that can possibly enhance the adoption of service robots by FLEs and adequately prepare them for potential changes. The limitations of this study and suggestions for further research are also discussed.

Abstract

At a time when the lack of physical activity is a real danger for the population, the digital revolution has a role to play. Indeed, we have been hearing about the arrival of new technologies, especially mobile sports applications, for several years. The supply and demand for this product are growing rapidly and the market is becoming more and more competitive. Therefore, it is important for brands to know consumers’ expectations and to understand their motivations regarding mobile sports applications in order not only to retain them, but also to attract new ones. Despite the large number of studies about mobile applications and the adoption of new technologies, few have been conducted on the factors that drive consumers to use sports applications. The current study was designed in the wake of a search of the existing literature focused on technology acceptance and mobile applications. The research was therefore built around the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (IDT), its aim being to examine the influence of different predictive factors on consumers' intentions to use sports mobile applications. The collection of this secondary data therefore allowed the dissemination of an online questionnaire and statistical analysis of its respondents’ answers. The results revealed that the factors with a positive impact on the intention to use a sports mobile application were perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, observability, and compatibility. In addition, we could notice that participants' familiarity with their app was also a variable impacting their intention to use. On the other hand, in this case, perceived ease of use and testability of the application do not appear to be predictors of intention to use. The gender and age of the participants do not have any influence on this causal relationship.Certain technical elements were also discerned to be important in the user’s view. Focusing on usability and the interface, activity history, the community, and adaptations related to Covid-19 is a good way to interest the consumer. This work concludes with an overview of the main implications and limitations of this research.

Abstract

Abstract

With the rapid increase in the implementation of e-Government in Africa and across the world, the need to investigate the key bottlenecks (issues) caused by the failure of a large number of e-Government projects cannot be ignored. The main purpose of this book is to contribute to the current scholarly and intellectual discourse on different aspects of e-Government such as understanding the critical issues in design, implementation and monitoring. This book specifically intends to bring out contextual issues that hugely impact on the probability for e-Government failure or success. It also differentiates itself by carefully exploring the issue of context-awareness (informed by the local context) for e-Government design and implementation, which has not been pursued in any publication in e-Government before, although it has been used in other information computational contexts. Therefore, the many theses within this book are concerned with e-Government design approaches, implementation policies and requirements, and monitoring dimensions need to be informed by the contextual characteristics in which they are implemented. This book contributes to the body of knowledge by presenting an in-depth analysis of a case of e-Government implementation. Therefore, this book has its facts backed by intermittent reference to an empirical study done in Zambia to accentuate issues in design, adoption, usage and monitoring of e-Government projects. The case articulates the methodological issues in the design and measurement of e-Government. The use of a combination of structural equation modelling (SEM), exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and advanced techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) in investigating different aspects of e-Government in a developing country context has not been done in any previous research. The novel methodological nuances articulated in this book can go a long way toward understanding the factors explaining successful implementation of e-Government. Previous publications have used basic statistical approaches devoid of adequate scientific or statistical rigour such as descriptive statistics to arrive at factors influencing the success or failure of e-Government. Furthermore, this book contributes to the body of knowledge by emphasising the different dimensions and issues of the multidimensional perspectives of e-Government. The book explores tangible pointers for design and implementation of e-Government, giving it the thrust to potentially guide actual implementation of e-Government in African setups.

Abstract

Abstract

Over the past few decades, modern information technology has made a significant impact on people’s daily lives worldwide. In the field of health care and prevention, there has been a progressing penetration of assistive health services such as personal health records, supporting apps for chronic diseases, or preventive cardiological monitoring. In 2020, the range of personal health services appeared to be almost unmanageable, accompanied by a multitude of different data formats and technical interfaces. The exchange of health-related data between different healthcare providers or platforms may therefore be difficult or even impossible. In addition, health professionals are increasingly confronted with medical data that were not acquired by themselves, but by an algorithmic “black box”. Even further, externally recorded data tend to be incompatible with the data models of classical healthcare information systems. From the individual’s perspective, digital services allow for the monitoring of their own health status. However, such services can also overwhelm their users, especially elderly people, with too many features or barely comprehensible information. It therefore seems highly relevant to examine whether such “always at hand” services exceed the digital literacy levels of average citizens. In this context, this reprint presents innovative, health-related applications or services emphasizing the role of user-centered information technology, with a special focus on one of the aforementioned aspects.
