Cet ouvrage se soutient d'une hypothèse personnelle : à regarder de près dans la cure analytique, on mesure que l'inconscient est bâti sur un tissu complexe de mécanismes. Après L'inconscient pour quoi faire ? (érès, 2018), l'auteur poursuit sa recherche en s'intéressant aux différents mécanismes psychiques et à leurs liens avec l'inconscient, dans les tableaux cliniques et dans la pratique, à partir de l'idée que les praxis avec l'inconscient renouvellent toutes les pratiques du colloque singulier. Il propose au lecteur de cheminer dans l'histoire de la psychanalyse, dans une traversée à la fois classique et moderne, pour découvrir une sorte de tresse de dynamiques psychiques qui traversent chaque être parlant.
