BCF 2018 is the first of its kind Bulgarian-Chinese Forum on International Cluster Policies. It marks the beginning of a series of events related to the development of partnership relations between Bulgaria and China in the field of tourism, information and communication technologies, quality of life and educational policies. The main focus of the event is the cooperation between Bulgarian and Chinese companies, organisations and institutions through the establishment of international cluster links and collaborations. The Forum is in line with the EU-China 2018 tourism initiative, China's One Belt One Road Initiative, and the 16 + 1 Initiative between CEE countries and China. Fourteen papers were presented in three panels: tourism, digitisation and education. BCF2018 aims to stimulate new investment opportunities both in the European Union and China and to serve as a platform for business, trade facilitation and investment to build reliable partnerships.

On the occasion of 100 years of UNWE and 30 years since the establishment of the Department "Economics of Tourism", a jubilee international conference "TOURISM - BEYOND EXPECTATIONS" was held. The conference aims to enable a large number of researchers in the field of tourism science to present their work in the six main areas set as a priority by the conference organizers: 1. The future of tourism - new sources of growth; 2. Smart tourism; 3. New realities in the shared economy; 4. Unique tourism - success stories; 5. The digital economy; 6. New dimensions of science in university education. The conference was attended by 96 scientists from Bulgaria, the United States and Russia, who presented 78 papers.

Powerful impact of tourism on the development of the whole social and economic context and the ecological environment of Bulgaria, geopolitical dynamics at regional and global level and the constantly increasing competition at the international tourist market impose fast and adequate changes in all key spheres of development of tourism including fast and adequate changes in tourism policies; staff training by means of teaching based on competences and requiring new models of partnership between tourism industry, education institutions and local authorities; new approaches to planning and spatial organization of tourism aiming to achieve higher sustainability; enhancing effectiveness of using significant finance resources by structural and investment funds of EU; purposeful scientific research of tourism practice focusing on expected outcomes of climatic changes, processes of clustering in tourism and new tendencies in the sector; achieving and sustaining high quality of tourism product by using new technologies together with digital marketing; development of new forms of types of special tourism, etc.
