Abstract

What is the relationship of the Czech public toward nature and the environment? How do Czechs approach nature conservation, air pollution or climate change for example? And what makes them different from most of the Europeans? This book provides answers to these and many other questions. It presents the most important results from the representative surveys and research dealing with the attitudes and behaviour of the Czech public in the environmental field. The summary of public opinion in individual areas of nature conservation and environmental protection is illustrated by infographics. The extensive overview is followed by a new representative research, which examines the Czechs' relationship toward nature and the environment, and presents how the views of Czech society are distributed in this area. It is complemented by a study of public opinion on the current issue of drought.

Abstract

The Concept of Outdoor Education for Elementary School is a "guide", how, when, where and in which forms it is appropriate to include the outdoor education to the elementary school curriculum. We focus on fact that short-term and mid-term forms of outdoor education shoud be prepared and guided by the teacher himself. The Concept includes detailed examples of educational topics applicable in the urban and rural environment, guidance to ensure pupils´ safety, legislative regulations related to outdoor education and examples of the use of specific teaching aids.

Abstract

This monography provides a description of traditional natural and cultural values in the protection and preservation of UNESCO heritage. The case study in territory are on the Slovak side Vlkolínec (for 25 years in UNESCO) and on the Czech side the Slavonic fortified settlement in Mikulčice, which is a potential candidate for registration on the UNESCO heritage list. In particular, practical options for using existing tools for the protection of monuments, such as land use plans, management plans or monument protection zones, are mentioned. The publication is the outcome of the project NKP3040D001: UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Life of Municipalities, Cities and Regions.

Abstract

The publication summarizes the results of a survey conducted in Czech schools in May-June 2016. The survey’s aim was to investigate how environmental education is implemented, e.g. what instructional strategies are used for fulfilling its goals. A total of 645 questionnaires were collected from respondents at the participating schools, 11 interviews were conducted with experienced teachers, and 9 case studies were produced at schools that had been selected as examples of best practice. The study shows both the strengths and weaknesses of environmental education as practiced in the Czech Republic. It presents environmental education as a strong field, but also points out specific weaknesses in its implementation. In its conclusion, the publication discusses the most important findings and suggests recommendations for the future support and development of environmental education at schools.
