Wisselverwarming is nodig om het treinverkeer in de winter vlot te laten verlopen. Zonderwisselverwarming kunnen enorme vertragingen ontstaan.In deze masterproef wordt beschreven hoe de wisselverwarming van het spoorwegnetmomenteel wordt aangestuurd en hoe het systeem kan geautomatiseerd worden. Er wordtgewerkt op basis van de eindwerken van twee masterstudenten die over hetzelfde onderwerponderzoek hebben verricht.Er wordt een studie gedaan naar de mogelijkheden om datacommunicatie te verwezenlijkentussen verschillende PLC’s. Er wordt ook getracht data-uitwisseling te voorzien tussen eenPLC en een SQL-database. Er wordt materiaal besteld om een proefopstelling teverwezenlijken en er wordt bestudeerd hoe deze proefopstelling kan geïntegreerd worden inhet bestaande wisselverwarmingssysteem.Uit de resultaten blijkt dat communicatie tussen PLC’s onderling over grote afstand mogelijkis. Het is praktisch ook haalbaar de proefopstelling te installeren. Ook is communicatiemogelijk met een SQL-database. Tenslotte worden nog enkele suggesties gedaan terverbetering van de automatisering van de wisselverwarming. Rail point heating is required to let the railway traffic run smoothly during the winter. Nopoint heating can cause severe delays.This thesis describes how the point heating of the rail network is currently being managedand how the system can be automated. This project is based on the work of two other studentswho have done research on the same subject.This work contains a study on the possibilities to achieve data communication betweendifferent PLCs. It also seeks to provide data exchange between a PLC and a SQL database.Some hardware has been selected for the trial installation and it is studied how this trialinstallation can be integrated into the existing point heating system.The results suggest that communication between different PLCs on a long distance ispossible. It is also practically possible to install the trial installation and to establishcommunication with a SQL database. Finally, there are some suggestions to improve theautomation of rail point heating.
