In the book Images Trouvées, Hans Segers collected twenty-nine shapes originally in a long concertina-shaped picture atlas, an archive of icons. Twenty-nine people from the art world in Belgium and France were invited to verbalise an image. As a result, the images in this book are enriched with new layers of meaning. - from publisher

Posture Editions celebrates its 30th publication with a special artist’s multiple by Philippe Van Snick. The work is entitled Huis [House] and has been created specifically for Posture Editions. It consists of 10 silkscreened compositions that together constitute an architectural game. The 10 + 1 colours—which have become the regular building blocks of Van Snick’s oeuvre—appear in various shapes and places on the five folded sheets of paper; they also constitute the point of departure for a prose text by Koen Brams. The printed sheets of art paper constitute a loose-leaf collection and each of the sheets is a work of art in itself. In his work, Philippe Van Snick (b. 1946, Ghent, Belgium) uses particularly simple forms and always the same colours. For Van Snick, painting involves more than the painted surface. The shapes, objects and colours he uses are never isolated elements. They relate to the space in which they are situated and to the physical experience of the public. Using simple and limited means—always imbued by a longing for order—Van Snick tries to describe the essence of life. With a limited formal vocabulary the artist explores, analyses and creates space in his paintings, installations and sculptures. In 2017, Van Snick was honoured with the Ultima Award for Visual Arts and his work was selected to be permanently on view in the new headquarters of the VRT (Flemish Television).

“Does an artist work differently when the medium is drawing, as opposed to oil painting or sculpture? There is of course the difference of technique and, additionally, the time needed to complete a work on paper is often much shorter than for a painting. Paper and pencil are nevertheless always at hand. Several of the drawings in this publication first appeared in sketch- or notebooks, or exercise books. A wide variety of paper is used. It is striking that many of the drawings were done on paper that appears already to have had a previous life. Mario De Brabandere (b. 1963) once bought a mass of paper from a bankrupt printing firm, a stack that would supposedly last him the rest of his life, but he also likes to work on sheets from old cash registers, on wrapping paper and cheap cardboard. These ‘previous lives’ show through in the final result. The works on paper are rarely ‘clean’; they bear traces of the production process: stains, yellowing edges, erased lines, tears and folds. These traces often make the drawings look older than they are, as if they dated from an earlier age. They have the feel of an old print that has to be conserved with great care.”From: ‘Works on paper’ Hans Martens, in: Works on Paper

‘Bernice Bobs Her Hair’ is a series of layered soft ground etchings, drawings and monotypes. The title is a nod towards a Fitzgerald story about Bernice, who changes her approach to traditional gender roles and youth over a visit to her niece Marjorie. The act of having her hair cut transforms her character into a real flapper and brings her to a new perception of femininity. from publisher

'Oei' is a facsimile of the notebook which Guy Rombouts filled from cover to cover with the word 'oei' over a span of one week in the summer of 1976. In the early Eighties, he developed the 'Rombouts', an alphabet that translates each letter into its own colour and intersection-less line, based on the first letter of the word describing that line. Consequently, each word acquires its own shape. In 1986, this acrophonic alphabet was baptised Azart. The cover of this facsimile shows Azart versions of the word 'oei'.
