The twentieth century was a remarkable period in architectural history. Rivaling the transformative achievements of ancient Greece, the gothic period or the Renaissance, the twentieth century galvanized radical developments in building technology, architectural theory, and space that paralleled global revolutions in politics, economics, and social values. Knowledge of the twentieth century's accomplishments is fundamentally critical for all students of architecture. More than 50 internationally renowned architects were asked to list the top 100 twentieth-century buildings they would teach to architecture students. The contributors were encouraged to select built projects where formal, spatial, technological, and organizational concepts responded to dynamic historical, cultural, social, and political circumstances. The capacity of these buildings to resist, adapt, and invent new typologies solidifies their timeless relevance to future challenges. The result is a master list of the top 100 "must-know" built workds of architecture designed and completed between 1900 and 2000.

Since the Euromaidan, Kyiv has been the place where Europe's future is decided between East and West. Meanwhile, the hybrid war in eastern Ukraine and on the Crimean peninsula has escalated into an open Russian war of aggression. Significant buildings in the capital Kyiv and vital infrastructure has come under fire. The Kyiv Architectural Guide presents over 100 buildings worth seeing from 100 years of the city's history, compiled by Ukrainian architectural historian Semen Shyrochyn. The typical residential complexes of avant-garde architecture, the imposing palaces of the Stalin era, the iconic designs of Soviet modernism, as well as the most significant construction projects built since independence are also expertly presented. In over 300 pages, this architectural guide proves that Kyiv is much more than the capital of Ukraine. Kyiv is an inseparable part of the European community of nations, where mutual respect of values counts more than the power of the strongest. This title is part of the Histories of Ukrainian Architecture programme initiated by DOM publishers in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine's sovereignty on 24 February 2022.

An often-quoted Swedish saying goes as follows: "A child has three teachers: the first teacher is the other children, the second teacher is the teacher, and the third teacher is the room." Students learn best where learning is interesting and fun - so the standards required for school construction are equally high. The continual development of educational concepts and new didactic approaches are changing everyday life in schools and, with it, the functional and aesthetic qualities of this building task. Classrooms and public areas both inside and outside are becoming increasingly flexible and multifunctional. They offer opportunities to retreat for individualized learning opportunities and zones of concentrated work, as well as open space landscapes for inter-year mingling and self-organized group activities. The school projects presented in this volume show how contemporary pedagogical concepts are translated into compelling and very diverse architectural solutions.
