By using COSMO-ART, highly resolved process study simulations for 2-3 July 2016 are conducted to assess the aerosol effect on the meteorological conditions of southern West Africa. The meteorological phenomenon Evening Monsoon Flow Enhancement (EMFE) is identified as highly susceptible to the aerosol direct effect, leading to a spatial shift of the EMFE front. In a second aerosol feedback chain the aerosol variation leads to a temporal shift of the stratus-to-cumulus transition.

Der japanische Physiker Masanao Abe baute sich Ende der 1920er Jahre ein Observatorium mit Blick auf den Fuji. Von dort hielt er über fünfzehn Jahre die Wolken fest, die den Berg umgaben. Sein Interesse galt der wissenschaftlichen Frage, wie man mit Hilfe von Filmen und Fotografien die Luftströmungen am Fuji sichtbar machen konnte. Abes Motive fügen sich, auch wenn das nicht seine Intention war, in eine lange ikonografische Tradition: der Berg und die Wolke. Sein Archiv stand jahrzehntelang unberührt in einem Gartenhaus in Tokio. Helmut Völter, der Abes Nachlass bei der Arbeit an seinem Buch „Wolkenstudien“ kennengelernt hatte, sichtete die Bilder des leidenschaftlichen Cineasten, für den erst die Kombination von Einzelaufnahmen, bewegten Bildern und Stereoaufnahmen die geeignete Form wissenschaftlicher Analyse war. Die dynamischen Wolkenfotografien um den schneebedeckten Fuji reißen einen beim bloßen Betrachten mit in die Lüfte.
