The author defines the characteristics and analyzes the structure of this form, and offers critiques on the most widely known works of the sinsoseol genre.

Classical Korean Novels is a set of three tiles, Simcheongjeon, Chunhyangjeon, and Heungbujeon, bound in the traditional Korean manner. These text are printed on hanji, paper made using unique Korean manufacturing techniques, and then the paper is folded so that the text faces outward. The printed pages are then covered with silk covers and bound with string. Also included in the set is a text explaining Korean Classical Novels, and performance culture, hanji, and Korean books, along with a CD-ROM which contains images of the original text of Simcheongjeon, Chunhyangjeon, and Heungbujeon, as well as video clips of important passages in each work performed as pansori, a unique Korean performance art genre, and video clips showing the manufacturing process used to create hanji and the process of binding books, in the traditional manner. These materials will allow the reader to gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture. The explanatory texts and CD-ROM are available in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
