The contemporary meaning of a historical place is not always immediately visible. Seven students of the International Master of Architecture (Faculty of Architecture, Campus Sint-Lucas Ghent), together with lecturer Gisèle Gantois, take on the challenge of exposing the particular layering of Ieper. They make the ‘Invisible City’ tangible in the reunification of the former swimming pool and military domain. The existing historical fabric of upper and underground spaces inspires interesting inclusion projects.

Public spaces are being renegotiated in the 21st century. Throughout Europe, there are demands for car-free, climate-compatible, diversely usable, and aesthetically attractive places where people can gather. Urban squares play a key role in this respect. This publication highlights 32 squares located in 16 European countries, all of which have been designed or redesigned in last 20 years. Among these are Trafalgar Square, London, Benthemplein, Rotterdam, Stephansplatz, Vienna, and Nørre Voldgade, Copenhagen. The book introduces the current debate and methods for organising and designing such places, then goes on to present detailed analyses of the selected examples.

PostDomestiCity is an inquiry and speculative exercise into the conditions of obsolescence in the post-industrial city, from a contemporary perspective. Working with three paradigmatic cases that were conceived from industrial logics?the Packard plant in Detroit, Lima?s PREVI neighbourhood, and the Grand?Mare complex in Rouen?, we explore alternative ways of reusing, reprogramming, and redensifying the built environment as alternatives to demolition. Relevant voices in the field of architecture share their approaches and visions of the future for the pre-existing city, helping us imagine post-domesticity in the current climate crisis and socio-technological context. Post DomestiCity, along with Open Building 2.0 (CoLab, 2018) and OpenCity (Actar, 2020), forms another trilogy by CoLaboratorio, approaching and understanding architecture as a resilient support with enormous transformative potential over time.
