With degrees in Philosophy and Architectural Civil Engineering, Gil Honoré joined Pierre Hebbelinck's architecture workshop in 1994, first as a work experience trainee, then as a regular member of staff. In December 2000, he left to do his own thing and in March 2003, founded the AIUD architectural practice - along with architects Guy François, Jean-Philippe Comblin and the civil engineer Francis Godaux. Carmelo Virone writes in numerous difference areas, from cultural promotion to poetry, not forgetting journalism, translating, fiction, literary and art criticism. He has worked on a regular basis with creators from various disciplines, be they musicians, like Garret List and Nicolas Husquet, or sculptors, like Johan Muyle and Claire Mambourg. For him, writing is all about creating relations. Through words we can relate and bond, as well as reread.

Of Sand and Stones recounts the design and construction of a mixed-use program (seven-screen multiplex cinema, cultural center, community center with black box theater, 342 housing units, shops and a garden), built with a precast loadbearing naturally-colored façade system in the neighborhood of Clichy-Batignolles, Paris, France between 2013 and 2018. ‘Of Sand and Stones’ is a journey into the construction of a building in Paris by two firms also based in the city, TVK and Tolila+Gilliland. It offers an alternate vision of architecture and time, spanning landscape and earth, geometry, and craft and construction in a format that recounts the material and cultural stories entangled in the project, through drawing, photography, and literature. Deepening the story the book proposes, it contains excepts from more than fifteen authors distributed across a broad range of interests and backgrounds, such as Reyner Banham, Marie Richeux, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Italo Calvino, Robert Smithson, and Marguerite Duras.
