This document, wherein Malinowski expands upon his experiences, does not only give an account of what he went through in Trobriand Islands, but also becomes a journey into his inner life, highly complicated and full of contradictions. When utilising the category of field, the author departures from its strictly geographical meaning that refers to some location, a place. The field in the present monograph acquires a broader sense, which encompasses the entirety of tension occurring between a researcher and reality involving geographical, social, cultural, and psychological components.
