Abstract

As a result of the growing interest in mountaineering, and in particular climbing, which can be observed not only worldwide but also in Germany and Poland in the last decade, related communication has also become widespread. The aim of the present study is to examine the sociolect of climbers both pragmatically and lexically. The analysis points out the communicative contexts that occur, analyses standardised communicative protocols, presents a qualitative and quantitative study of climbing lexis, as well as reveals the naming motivations behind the studied terms and discusses the borrowing mechanisms through which these elements found their way into German and Polish. The appendix includes a Polish-German glossary of climbing terms.

Abstract

Through innovative fieldwork and ethnographic writing, Hecht lays bare the received truths about the lives of Brazilian street children. This book changes the terms of the debate, asking not why there are so many homeless children in Brazil but why, given the oppressive alternative of home life in the shantytowns, there are in fact so few. Speaking in recorded sessions they called 'radio workshops', street children asked one another questions that even the most experienced researcher would be unlikely to pose. At the center of this study are the children who play, steal, sleep, dance and die in the streets of a Brazilian city. But all around them figure activists, politicians, researchers and a global crisis of childhood.

What Future for Educational Buildings?” The OECD Centre for Educational Research and Innovation presented possible scenarios for schools over the next 15 to 20 years. The effects of information and communication technologies (ICT) on the learning environment were addressed at both school and tertiary levels, as well as the views of teachers and other users of educational facilities.
