This book offers essential insights into Chinese Korean minority youth citizenship identity development during their high school and university education period out of their political socialization experience. It investigates how they develop their citizenship identity with the state through bilingual education and media exposure, as an outcome of the entangled relationship between state power and economic globalization. The book demonstrates to readers how to apply the abstract conceptual framework of identity politics and ideology construction, nurtured by both civil culture and political evolvement, to a specific case with operationalized measurement extracted from political socialization concepts so as to understand and rationalize identity development. This approach offers both an in-depth way to penetrate further in the discourse construction that shapes identity politics and an innovative means of measuring and explaining relevant relationships.

In a context where schools are held more and more accountable for the education they provide, data-based decision making has become increasingly important. This book brings together scholars from several countries to examine data-based decision making. Data-based decision making in this book refers to making decisions based on a broad range of evidence, such as scores on students’ assessments, classroom observations etc. This book supports policy-makers, people working with schools, researchers and school leaders and teachers in the use of data, by bringing together the current research conducted on data use across multiple countries into a single volume. Some of these studies are ‘best practice’ studies, where effective data use has led to improvements in student learning. Others provide insight into challenges in both policy and practice environments. Each of them draws on research and literature in the field.--

This book fills an existing gap within the practice of global citizenship education by offering Asian perspectives. In this book, Soka or value-creating education developed by the Japanese educators, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944) and Daisaku Ikeda (b. 1928) is compared to the ideas of the Indian political leader Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948). This study of their respective thoughts and movements has a significant bearing on the three domains of learning within the global citizenship education conceptual dimensions of UNESCO – the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral. This book deftly combines theoretical discussions with themes and suggestions for practice and future research. .

The book discusses the most essential topics in understanding the development and changes of higher educational systems in Asia after the outbreak of the pandemic, and explores the transformative, international and innovative moves from an Asian perspective. The topics covered in the book are timely in that higher education in Asia was severely limited during the tumultuous time of the pandemic, including three themes- 1. How the pandemic drives system reform and quality management; 2. How can universities maintain transnational partnerships and attract global talent; 3. How would faculty members innovate teaching pedagogy and reassess student learning experiences. This timely and well-researched book provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities for national, regional, and international higher education created by the recent pandemic as well as technological and geopolitical changes. The lucid analysis of key issues and trends will be useful to academics, policymakers, and researchers within Asia and beyond. Professor Jane Knight, Ontario Institute for studies in Education, University of Toronto This book sets out important thinking for the post-pandemic era in Asian higher education. Based on valuable experience across a diverse region, this book highlights the opportunity to reimagine the future trajectory for higher education. As more of the Asia-Pacific moves toward mass and even universal systems of higher education, it exerts greater influence on higher education around the world. This book offers practical analysis that is culturally grounded in the rich civilizations of Asia about ubiquitous issues in higher education, including social equity, human agency, program quality, innovative pedagogy, academic governance, private sector initiative, knowledge building, and a new form of internationalization. It offers a sensible launchpad for a policy agenda. Professor Gerard Postiglione, Emeritus Professor, The University of Hong Kong.

Through in-depth case studies of two primary schools, readers gain a comprehensive understanding of educational evaluation and improvement. The book proposes a new theoretical framework for a comprehensive quality care process that links lesson study, curriculum management, and school evaluation. Based on authentic assessment, the strategies and examples presented can be applied to any quality system. The conclusion offers core ideas for successful implementation of educational evaluation and improvement. This book is essential reading for teachers and school leaders seeking to build their schools’ quality systems, and for researchers and graduate students interested in improving educational evaluation.

This edited volume brings together researchers and educators who present a balanced blend of theoretical and practice-based considerations about different pedagogies in the field of Progressive Education (including Philosophy with Children, Reggio Children, Philosophy with Children Hawaii, Dialogic Education etc.). To change future education for good, inclusive pedagogical theories and practices must prove themselves to be efficacious in the unpredictable, multifaceted dynamics of real classrooms. By focusing on ideological and structural dynamics that can undermine or promote inclusion or providing future directions that can foster emancipatory, democratic, socially-just and evidence-based forms of teaching and professional practice, the chapters in this book explore current and emerging practices, experiences, and problems to equip both researchers and teachers with a wide range of possibilities and tools to face the challenges of future education. Enrico Postiglione holds a PhD from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. Since 2016 he builds and runs Philosophy for Children communities of inquiry with both children and adults in complex educational contexts and analyses their effectiveness. His research focuses primarily on social/ linguistic/educational inclusion and the interactions between philosophy of mind and the nature of educational processes.
