ZEOCAT '95 is the eleventh in the series of symposia devoted to special fields of zeolite chemistry. Six plenary lectures, forty oral and forty-two poster presentations were included in the program. The accepted papers cover every aspect of catalysis on microporous materials. A significant number of the contributions describe the synthesis, modification, instrumental and chemical characterisation of zeolites and other micro- and mesoporous materials. Catalytic reactions involve hydrocarbon cracking, nucleophilic aromatic substitution, methanol to hydrocarbon conversion, hydration of acetylene, various alkylation reactions, redox transformations, Claisen rearrangement, etc.

Due to their unique porous properties, zeolites (also referred to as molecular sieves) are used in a variety of applications - major uses are in petrochemical cracking, ion-exchange (water softening and purification), and in the separation and removal of gases and solvents. Molecular Sieves: From Basic Research to Industrial Applications, Volume 158 A, B presents over 265 worldwide contributions on the latest developments in zeolitic research. Readers will find this book, which is divided into five sections: Synthesis, Characterization, Adsorption, Catalysis, and Novel applications, ideal for staying up to date on current research on porous materials. * Comprehensive overview of current research on porous materials * Contains experimental as well as theoretical input, reflecting the increasing overlap between theory and experiment * Contributions from the world's leading authorities.

These proceedings reflect recent developments in the field of zeolite chemistry and catalysis with an emphasis on the role of a modifying component on the properties of the molecular sieve material. The plenary lectures and contributed papers concentrate on the problem of isomorphous substitution in a zeolitic framework; on the occlusion and the structure of metal, metal oxide, and metal sulphide clusters and complexes in the intracrystalline void volume of molecular sieves and zeolites as well as in the interlaminar space of layered compounds. Catalytic applications are discussed, not only in regard to traditional hydrocarbon transformation, but also in such areas as: reduction of SO2, decomposition of NO, reactions of sulphur containing compounds and conversion of CO, CO2 to hydrocarbons or of alcohols to oxygenated products. Because the book provides valuable data and information on new achievements in the zeolite material science and application, it will be of considerable interest to all research groups involved in zeolite science.

Almost all aspects of heterogeneous catalysis are covered in this proceedings volume: papers on surface science and modern spectroscopic techniques provide a particularly extensive coverage of catalyst characterization, while other papers update the broader area of major types of catalysts, such as oxides, sulfides, supported metals and zeolites as well as presenting new developments. Major catalytic reactions are covered including those involving carbon monoxide hydrogenation, emission control and hydrotreating. The current important area of octane enhancement catalysts and processes and important industrial concepts in hydrotreating are dealt with, including new aspects of shape-selective catalysis. The applied engineering topics of reactions engineering and catalyst deactivation are also updated. New concepts in theoretical catalysis are presented and several new homogeneous catalyst systems are reported. The book concludes with four illuminating papers on the future reactions of catalysis as applied to energy processing, chemicals production and, in particular, to biocatalysis on a large scale. Many of the contributors are leaders in their fields and, with almost 1,000 pages and 85 papers, this book provides an enormous amount of information which will be extremely valuable to catalyst and related practitioner, whether fundamentalists or highly applied, who wish to evaluate current findings in their fields.

This two-volume work contains over 140 papers which, together, reflect the current status of zeolite science and technology encompassing high and low silica zeolites, pillared clays, molecular sieves, microporous metallosilicates, crystalline silica polymorphs, crystalline microporous aluminophosphates and their isomorphically substituted forms. The five plenary invited lectures summarize current knowledge and address a number of topical areas such as the enumeration of theoretically possible frameworks, the use of sophisticated physical methods to unravel and characterise new molecular sieve materials, the potential of molecular sieves as catalysts for chemical intermediate and commodity synthesis and conversion, the role of zeolites in fluid catalytic cracking, and new zeolitic materials. Specific aspects of zeolite science are highlighted in the ten keynote lectures of which three are on synthesis and modification, one on new materials, one on characterization, two on structure and theory, one on metals in zeolites, and two on catalytic topics. All the contributions in this book reflect the high quality of research being carried out throughout the zeolite community.
