This master thesis deals with the evolution of the public spending by means of the study of economic theories and the observation of public finances in Belgium and in different European countries.
For this purpose, we will first have a look at the public debt and expenditures of the relevant countries. We will develop the different types of government spending for the years 2013.
The third part of this dissertation will lead us to expose the factors that have contributed to the degradation of the public finances and will include the periods and the measures of fiscal consolidation taken in Belgium.
To sum up, we will analyse the measures of fiscal consolidation in Germany and in the Netherlands and we will compare them with those implemented in Belgium.
