Abstract

Presents outcomes of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's systematic reviews of evidence for the effectiveness of primary care and prevention practices. These reviews are published as U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations, which are searchable by category of disease, type of care (counseling, preventive medication, or screening), and patient characteristics (age group or gender).

A quick hands-on tool designed to help primary care clinicians identify the screening, counseling, and preventive medication services that are appropriate for their patients. Available both as a PDA application and a web-based tool. Based on current recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Abstract

Myhealthfinder is a gateway consumer health information Web site coordinated by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) and its National Health Information Center. This site, launched April 15, 1997, contains selected health and human services information resources such as online publications, clearinghouses, databases, Web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public. Health and human services topics covered range from Alzheimer's to women's health; programs like Head Start, Medicaid, Medicare, and Welfare; information on drug safety, food labeling, food safety, and nutrition; and clinical preventive services, public health, and medicine.
