He also teaches and undertakes research in Indigenous knowledges and decolonisation. This book focuses on historical and current data to examine racism in Australia. Making use of the latest state and federal data sets, it critically synthesises contemporary research on race relations with a focus on racism and anti-racism initiatives. Employing innovative analytical methods, the book provides students and researchers with a current and up-to-date analytical framework, and benchmark empirical evidence on race relations. In addition, the book also analyses research data from other countries in order to generate some comparative insights and draw possible lessons and policy implications for Australia.

Abstract

This book explores the issue of salinization in the context of contemporary conflicts about irrigation, water, and the environment in Australia, considering the Murray-Darling Basin in particular. It provides an environmental and social history charting the transformation of rural communities in the basin through the salinization of soils and water. Focusing on the Goulburn-Murray Irrigation district in the southwest of the Murray-Darling basin - the largest irrigation district in Australia - it explores the history of state-directed, large-scale engineering in the district, where the environment has been altered dramatically to facilitate white agricultural settlement inland. Changes to the landscape led to extensive salinization, however - a significant environmental threat in Australia. This book traces the impact of these changes on rural communities, taking a 'bottom-up' approach, highlighting the connections between environmental, social, and political change. It provides an important reflection on the importance of environmental history for facing the challenges posed by anthropogenic climate change. Daniel Rothenburg is Scientific Coordinator and Research Associate at the Collaborative Research Center 923 "Threatened Order", University of Tübingen, Germany.

Abstract

This book provides the most comprehensive history and analysis of Australian animation published to date. Spanning from the 1910s to the present day, it explores a wide-range both of independent animation, and of large-scale commercial productions. Presented within a uniquely international context, it details the frequent links between Australian animation and overseas productions. New perspectives and original information are offered on a variety of international subjects such as: Felix the Cat, the Australian Hanna-Barbera studios, and the Australian Walt Disney studios. Drawing on both extensive archival research and original interviews this book illuminates, for the first time, the breadth and richness of Australia’s animation history.

Abstract

Collected in this sizeable boxed set is a prime selection of artworks from Africa and Oceania that are juxtaposed against masterpieces of Modern Art in order to not only examine their specific qualities alone, but also acknowledge the significant contribution that non-European works have made to the world history of art. This richly illustrated publication was released to accompany an exhibition with the same name at the Fondation Beyeler and consists of seventeen large-sized, folded sheets along with an accompanying explanatory brochure. Contributions from a number of renowned scholars from art history and anthropology explore specific contrasts and associations between the two traditions, along with the theoretical implications.
