Abstract

Images are omnipresent in our digital age, but they're worth a closer look. Many of them can tell us stories in new and surprising ways. 'Fotoviz' reveals how infographics and data visualization are currently impacting photography and points to innovative possibilities for the future. Today, data is being visualized through photographic techniques such as long and multiple exposures. Insightful information is being communicated by making a single image out of several different shots or using a 3D perspective. The work featured in 'Fotoviz', to cite only a few compelling examples, makes invisible Wi-Fi fields visible, allows airport flight activity from a full day to appear as if it were happening at once, and illustrates the average selfietaking behavior of an entire city.

Abstract

Following today's intrepid adventurers, this atmospheric book is a visual journey to the most beautiful and breathtaking places in the world. So pack your backpack, lace up your shoes--don't forget your camera--and go. As the rhythm of our hectic urban lives continues to speed up, we are increasingly compelled to leave it all behind and escape far into the quiet depths of nature. In great contrast with the claustrophobic metropolitan environments most of us live in, the photographs featured in The Great Wide Open depict wondrous sites that will take you on a visual journey through faraway lands from Mongolia to Peru, as seen by those who have climbed that mountain and surfed that wave. Through their silent forests, infinite skies, and crystal waters, these photographs capture the feeling of longing behind the growing search for a certain peacefulness that is lacking in our fast-paced lifestyles.

Abstract

Whether as a complement to written content or a stand-alone attention getter, illustration is being used more and more often to set prominent accents. Illustrations have become a key component of advertising, communication, reporting, and other media. Because visual storytelling gets messages across more effectively in our age of information overload, illustration is gaining in importance. It's no wonder that the current spectrum of creative expression represented by this technique is so vast. Illusive 4 is the definitive reference of contemporary illustration and these developments. Showcasing the work of around 200 active illustrators --both established names and new talents --from around the world, the book demonstrates the dynamism of this creative technique and documents global trends. Some examples surprise the viewer by integrating elements from fashion sketching, figurative painting, collage, and photography. Astute texts describe how and where illustration is being used today and put the featured work into context. They explore opportunities for illustration in fields including advertising and merchandising and for thematic topics such as fashion, lifestyle, politics, and culture. Illusive 4 makes it clear that illustrations are not only used as decorative elements, but to visually convey both content and emotions. Because of its role as a transmitter of information, the medium of illustration is not limited by current fads. In fact, much of the included work is characterized by an impressive creative independence. The results are as astounding as they are inspiring. Its scope makes Illusive 4 a rich source of ideas for illustrators, painters, and visual artists, as well as for graphic and editorial designers. Its combination of images and text offers added insights for editors, writers, and anyone working in communication. In short, the book is meant for everyone who is passionate about

Abstract

Tactile shows how graphic design is moving into three-dimensional objects and products. The innovative examples documented in the book demonstrate how designers are developing and implementing their ideas spatially from the very outset of a project.
