In Waagstukken presenteert Charlotte Van den Broeck, elegant laverend tussen beschouwing en vertelling, dertien teksten over tragische architecten. Het zijn de ver halen van bekende en vergeten bouwmeesters die zelfmoord pleegden op of in een door hen ontworpen gebouw, of omwille van dat gebouw. Hun ingreep in de openbare ruimte mondt uit in een mislukking, of wordt door hen op een fatale wijze zo ervaren. Ze hanteren het gereedschap van de hoogmoed, maar falen.Van den Broeck reisde de afgelopen jaren deze architecten en hun noodlot na. In een tocht langs hun laatste bouwwerken onderzoekt ze het verband tussen persoonlijk en publiekelijk falen, tussen het belang van de openbare ruimte en de autoriteit van de (doorgaans mannelijke) architecten.
