This book on the oeuvre of Virginie Bailly can best be approached as a walk through the oeuvre at a tempo defined by five core concepts: point de vue, luminosity, gesturality, directness and structure. Five broadly spreading branches symbolised by five key works, straight through the landscape of Bailly's visual work with its untold numbers of cross-connections via smaller paths and routes. The decision not to make any divisions by chronology or discipline is based on the idea that this oeuvre flourishes in its own logic. Bailly sees no difference between her video work, installations, drawing and painting. They all stem from the same roots, nourished and guided by observation of optical phenomena and the confrontation with space.
