The contributions forming the different chapters in this book were first presented and discussed at the fifth Uddevalla Symposium which was held in June 2002 at Uddevalla, Sweden. The symposium's theme was Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Regional Development and Public Policy in the Emerging Digital Economy  and the chapters forming this book were selected from the papers presented at this symposium. All chapters have been peerreferee d and refined after the sympo sium. The University West (former the University of Trollhättan/Uddevalla), De partment of Economics and Informatics arranged the symposium in co operation with Jönköping International Business School, Sweden and the School of Public Policy at George Mason University, USA.
