This edited volume brings together work in the field of empirical comics research. De graphic novel bij de nieuwe Belgische animatiefilm 'Cafard' Het onwaarschijnlijke verhaal van een Belgisch pantserkorps in de Eerste Wereldoorlog krijgt eindelijk de aandacht die het verdient dankzij 'Cafard', een animatiefilm én een knappe graphic novel. Cafard, Frans voor kakkerlak, was de troetelnaam die de leden van het ACM-korps gaven aan hun onverwoestbare gewaande pantservoertuigen met een Minerva-chassis. Maar cafard betekent ook heimwee, een gevoel dat deze pioniers meer dan eens overviel tijdens hun lange tocht langs het Russische front en de VS.
