Gastric cancer remains an important issue in the world of oncology. In 2013, it ranked fifth by global incidence and second by mortality. Really, it is true that the death rates have decreased significantly in the USA and in Europe over the 100-year period; meanwhile, gastric cancer can be characterized by poor prognosis and high mortality, with the exception of early diagnosed patients. Oncological (basic and clinical) research increased extremely in the last decades (including gastric cancer). The authors participating in this book are internationally well-known experts from 11 countries of the world, working in different fields of gastric cancer research, and they summarize the results obtained in the last years. The conclusions of these abovementioned observations fall between the findings of classical prospective, randomized, multiclinical, multinational (and meta-analyzed) generally accepted studies (in accordance with the presently applied and internationally accepted protocols) and the scientifically-based (however individual) molecular targeting organ therapies. The book gathers experts in basic science, molecular pharmacologists, biochemical pharmacologists, basic and clinical oncologists, internists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, tumor pharmacologists as well as experts working in the field of oncology.

This book highlights the important role of neutrophils in health as well as in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Section 1 provides a general background information regarding the mechanisms and various triggers of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation and their role in various infectious and noninfectious diseases (such as postinjury inflammation). Section 2 provides recent evidence regarding the role of neutrophils in the pathogenesis as well as a therapeutic target for selected disease conditions such as periodontal diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and cystic fibrosis. Section 3 describes the anti-inflammatory properties of neutrophils with focus regarding their role in graft versus host disease. This book provides a wider picture with regard to the importance of this immune cell type in various diseases with focus on one of its recently discovered properties, NETs. Therapeutic targets aimed to modulate neutrophil functions might provide novel approaches in the treatment of various diseases of infectious and noninfectious origin.

The propagation of hepatitis C from acute to chronic infection and afterward to end-stage liver diseases (hepatic fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma) involves a highly orchestrated series of molecular and cellular events, including a plethora of genes and cell signaling cascades. The treatment paradigms was revolutionized after the development and approval of all oral interferon-free direct-acting antivirals achieving higher sustained virologic response rates in treated individuals. This book pragmatically overviews the intricate interplay between viral and host factors during hepatitis C virus infection progression, as well as other hepatitis C-associated clinical implications. Hepatitis C - From Infection to Cure also provides up-to-date information about hepatitis C cures for clinicians, physicians, and healthcare providers with an ample understanding of the current treatment horizon, as well as other investigational and emerging treatment strategies. The authors with their valuable scientific contributions belong to many eminent institutes around the world and are much experienced in hepatitis C virology, pathology, and therapeutics.
