EPDF and EPUB available Open Access under CC-BY-NC-ND. This book explores how children's rights are weighed against parents' rights in a range of countries, and examines how governments and legal and welfare professionals balance those rights following the decision that children cannot grow up in their parents' care.

The new competitive electricity markets make it imperative for companies related to electricity production and retail to have tools in place for energy offers. Price forecasting is critical when making offers in electricity markets, since it is considerably more complex than demand forecasting and the level of uncertainty is higher. Knowing electricity prices beforehand makes it possible for generators to determine their optimal production strategy in order to maximize their profit. Similarly, consumers and retailers can plan their consumption and produce energy bids to maximize their utility. Therefore, price forecasting is instrumental both for producers, retailers and consumers.

"Capitalizing a Cure takes us into the struggle over accessing a medical breakthrough to investigate the power of finance over business, biomedicine, and public health. When sofosbuvir-based medicines launched in 2013, they promised a cure for millions of patients worldwide with hepatitis C. But their sticker shock-the drug was dubbed "the $1,000-a-day pill"-intensified a global debate over the pricing of new medicines. Weaving extensive historical research with insights from political economy and science and technology studies, Victor Roy demystifies an oft-missed dynamic in this debate: the reach of financialized capitalism into how medicines are made, priced, and valued. His account travels between public and private labs, Wall Street and corporate boardrooms, public health meetings and health centers to trace the ways sofosbuvir-based medicines became financial assets dominated by strategies of speculation and extraction at the expense of access and care. Provocative and sobering, this book illuminates the harmful impact of allowing financial markets to supersede democracy and human health and points to the necessary work of building more equitable futures."--

Retail Revenue Management).

This book successfully illustrates the modeling of electricity prices with the help of stochastic processes. The relatively new phenomenon of negative prices is also integrated into the models. The integration of feed-in from wind power plants in energy models is also very innovative. This approach helps to simulate electricity prices in order to take into account the ""merit-order effect of renewable energy"". Finally, the models are used for the techno-economic evaluation of energy storages.

Food price volatility is one of the major challenges facing current and future global food systems. This book analyses how and why governments responded as they did to the global food crisis of 2007-09 and what their decisions can teach us about policy interventions.

This book explains how True Cost Accounting is an effective tool we can use to address the pervasive imbalance in our food system. Calls are coming from all quarters that the food system is broken and needs a radical transformation. A system that feeds many yet continues to create both extreme hunger and diet-related diseases, and one which has significant environmental impacts, is not serving the world adequately. This volume argues that True Cost Accounting in our food system can create a framework for a systemic shift. What sounds on the surface like a practice relegated to accountants is ultimately a call for a new lens on the valuation of food and a new relationship with the food we eat, starting with the reform of a system out of balance. From the true cost of corn, rice and water, to incentives for soil health, the chapters economically compare conventional and regenerative, more equitable farming practices in and food system structures, including taking an unflinching look at the true cost of cheap labour. Overall, this volume points towards the potential for our food system to be more human-centred than profit-centred and one that has a more respectful relationship to the planet. It sets forth a path forward based on True Cost Accounting for food. This path seeks to fix our current food metrics, in policy and in practice, by applying a holistic lens that evaluates the actual costs and benefits of different food systems, and the impacts and dependencies between natural systems, human systems, agriculture and food systems. This volume is essential reading for professionals and policymakers involved in developing and reforming the food system, as well as students and scholars working on food policy, food systems and sustainability.
