Les émotions et les affects sont plus que jamais dans l’air du temps : elles sont au cœur des débats en neurosciences, en philosophie, en psychologie cognitive et en traitement automatique du langage avec l’analyse des sentiments et opinions. Dans cet ouvrage, c’est exclusivement sous l’angle linguistique et à travers de nombreuses langues que la question des affects est abordée. Ce sont ici les mots des émotions (comme par exemple joie, amour, bonheur, colère, peur, angoisse), si souvent récalcitrants aux classifications rigides, qui sont caractérisés à travers leur environnement lexical et syntaxique. Les seize contributions de ce volume jettent un éclairage nouveau sur le lexique des émotions, abordé dans des langues variées (français, espagnol, russe, polonais, grec) et à travers plusieurs approches linguistiques, d’inspiration structurale ou cognitive, mais qui toutes accordent une place essentielle à la combinatoire linguistique. Si les études proposées dans cet ouvrage abordent des enjeux théoriques essentiels comme la construction du sens à travers les associations des lexies exprimant des affects ou la structuration du champ sémantique des émotions, elles débouchent aussi sur des applications utiles pour la linguistique, comme l’enseignement structuré de la phraséologie en Français Langue Étrangère (FLE), la classification automatique des unités lexicales en Traitement Automatique du Langage (TAL) ou un traitement plus systématique en lexicographie.

Dieses Jahrbuch des Instituts für Deutsche Sprache ist dem Jahr der Geisteswissenschaften gewidmet und beleuchtet aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive das Zusammenwirken von cultural und linguistic turn. Die Beiträge aus Linguistik, Kultur- und Kognitionswissenschaft sowie Literatur- und Geschichtswissenschaft zielen darauf ab, die kulturwissenschaftlichen Traditionen der Sprachwissenschaft zu vergegenwärtigen und gleichzeitig den Anschluss der Linguistik an die modernen Forschungsrichtungen der Kulturwissenschaft zu dokumentieren: Hermeneutik, Rhetorik und Lexikographie, Kognitionstheorie und Diskursanalyse werden aus sprachwissenschaftlicher Perspektive diskutiert. Darüber hinaus beleuchten die Beiträge die Folgen des linguistic turn in den Nachbarwissenschaften exemplarisch anhand der Literaturwissenschaft und der Historiographie. Insgesamt präsentiert der Band das Spektrum von Grundlagen, Theorien und Methoden sowie anwendungsbezogene Beispiele einer kulturwissenschaftlichen Linguistik. This Yearbook of the German Language Institute aims to call to mind the traditions of linguistics in cultural studies and at the same time to document the connections between linguistics and modern research paths in cultural studies such as the theory of cognition and discourse analysis. In addition, the papers illuminate the linguistic turn in literary and historical studies. Thus the volume presents the foundations and theoretical and methodological approaches to linguistics as a cultural study, together with examples related to practice.

Auf diese uralte Fragestellung, der bereits Wilhelm von Humboldt nachgegangen ist, gibt dieses Buch eine eindeutig bejahende Antwort: Unsere Weltanschauung wird durch die Grammatik der eigenen Muttersprache(n) geprägt, sodass Menschen Ereignisse sprachspezifisch wahrnehmen, versprachlichen und auch erinnern. Diese grundlegenden Erkenntnisse sind durch den hier gewählten experimentellen Zugang psycholinguistischer Methoden (z.B. Eye-Tracking) erstmalig möglich.Der Einfluss von Sprache auf Kognition erweist sich darüber hinaus für Sprachkontakt als extrem relevant. Infolge des über Jahrhunderte andauernden Sprachkontakts zwischen dem Deutschen und Tschechischen hat sich das Aspekt-System des Tschechischen dahingehend geändert, dass die Ereigniskonzeptualisierung im Tschechischen wie im Deutschen verläuft und das Tschechische sich systematisch von anderen ost- und westslawischen Sprachen absetzt.

Dillon draws upon recent studies of language processing to ask how linguistic form shapes readers' (or hearers') responses to literary texts. The resulting model of comprehension gives an explicit account of the strategies readers may use in analyzing and comprehending passages from Spenser, Milton, Wordsworth, Henry James, Faulkner, Wallace Stevens, and other notoriously "difficult" writers. Dillon's model bears on many of the major issues in current literary theory, such as whether and how "literary" reading differs from other kinds of reading and what the function and importance of ambiguity is within a literary work. The book's overall aim is to supplant William Empson's Seven Types of Ambiguity as an account of how we do and should read literature.

The core use of language is in face-to-face conversation. This is characterized by rapid turn-taking. This turn-taking poses a number central puzzles for the psychology of language. Consider, for example, that in large corpora the gap between turns is on the order of 100 to 300 ms, but the latencies involved in language production require minimally between 600 ms (for a single word) or 1500 ms (for as simple sentence). This implies that participants in conversation are predicting the ends of the incoming turn and preparing in advance. But how is this done? What aspects of this prediction are done when? What happens when the prediction is wrong? What stops participants coming in too early? If the system is running on prediction, why is there consistently a mode of 100 to 300 ms in response time? The timing puzzle raises further puzzles: it seems that comprehension must run parallel with the preparation for production, but it has been presumed that there are strict cognitive limitations on more than one central process running at a time. How is this bottleneck overcome? Far from being 'easy' as some psychologists have suggested, conversation may be one of the most demanding cognitive tasks in our everyday lives. Further questions naturally arise: how do children learn to master this demanding task, and what is the developmental trajectory in this domain? Research shows that aspects of turn-taking, such as its timing, are remarkably stable across languages and cultures, but the word order of languages varies enormously. How then does prediction of the incoming turn work when the verb (often the informational nugget in a clause) is at the end? Conversely, how can production work fast enough in languages that have the verb at the beginning, thereby requiring early planning of the whole clause? What happens when one changes modality, as in sign languages - with the loss of channel constraints is turn-taking much freer? And what about face-to-face communication amongst hearing individuals - do gestures, gaze, and other body behaviors facilitate turn-taking? One can also ask the phylogenetic question: how did such a system evolve? There seem to be parallels (analogies) in duetting bird species, and in a variety of monkey species, but there is little evidence of anything like this among the great apes. All this constitutes a neglected set of problems at the heart of the psychology of language and of the language sciences. This Research Topic contributes to advancing our understanding of these problems by summarizing recent work from psycholinguists, developmental psychologists, students of dialog and conversation analysis, linguists, phoneticians, and comparative ethologists.
