'Waarden in dialoog' biedt een praktisch toepasbaar en theoretisch gefundeerd model voor ethiek in de zorg, dat gegroeid is vanuit praktijkervaring en studie. Eerst wordt het fundament van ethiek gelegd in de zorgrelatie en in een relationeel personalisme. Daaruit volgen 3 pijlers van ethiek, namelijk waarden, dialoog en grondhoudingen. Deze hangen nauw met elkaar samen: de zorgverleners evalueren waarden in dialoog en vanuit grondhoudingen. De waarden staan op het spel in de dialoog en treden met elkaar in dialoog. Dit wordt samengebracht in een synthese met een ethische theorie en een praktisch model voor ethische reflectie. Dit model is de basis voor een aantal toepassingen. Daarin staat de samenwerking tussen de betrokkenen als relationeel gebeuren centraal. Er is samenwerking tussen zorgverleners in een team of een netwerk, wat onvermijdelijk zijn grenzen vindt in menselijke tekortkomingen. Er is ook samenwerking tussen de zorgvrager, de naastbetrokkenen en de zorgverleners, waarbij gepleit wordt voor ethische dialoog. Maar ook deze samenwerking botst op haar grenzen bij de toepassing van vrijheidsbeperking en dwang. Een belangrijke voorwaarde voor elke vorm van samenwerking is het zorgvuldig omgaan met informatie en met het beroepsgeheim
