In 2007 Bruno Vandermeulen (KU Leuven) and Danny Veys (LUCA Campus Sint-Lukas Brussels) applied for a grant from the Institute for Practice Based Research of the Association KU Leuven to develop a project on photography and archaeology. Avec des images éloquentes d'angels & ghosts, Annelies De Mey, Annemie Augustijns, Babs De Cruyenaere, Bert Danckaert, Carl De Keyzer, Caroline Van Poucke, Charif Benhelima, Charlotte Lybeer, Danny Veys, Debby Huysmans, Dominique Somers, Elisabeth Broekaert, Franky Verdickt, Geert Goiris, Gert Jochems, Ilse Liekens, Isabelle Pateer, Jan Kempenaers, Jimmy Kets, Karin Borghouts, Marc Lagrange, Lara Dhondt, Marc Horemans, Marco Jacobs, Mark De Blieck, Michèle Matyn, Nadine Tasseel, Nick Hannes, Ole Stragier, Pieter Huybrechts, Roel Pardaens, Ronald Stoops & Inge Grognard, Ronny Smedts, Sarah Van Marcke, Stephan Vanfleteren, Tim Dirven, Titus Simoens, Tony Leduc et Wouter Van Vaerenbergh.

What does landscape mean today? Still the Ưromantic ideal of a diversified natural, agricultural and settlement area? Modern landscapes today are often 'non-places'. They bear traces of ecoƯnomic interventions, changing demarcations, are marked by displacement and war as well as by urban sprawl and mining. Quite often, only a kind of residual nature remains, where a few ruins tell of historical events. Barren landscapes that speak of past violence are degraded to (illustrative) Ưmaterial. At the same time, (war) memories are Ưvisibly embodied in architectural monuments from the 20th century. In this exhibition and in numerƯous contributions to the extensive book, 24 artists and artist groups bring the theme of landscape to life. Landscapes between fiction, symbolism and documentation are presented, and they appeal to our ability to read and decipher these images? and, quite naturally, call upon our imagination and our ability to feel empathy.
