Numbering an estimated 164 million globally, migrant workers are an essential component of contemporary businesses. Despite their number and indispensability in the global economy, migrant workers frequently lack the legal protections enjoyed by other workers. In Patterns of Exploitation, Anna K. Boucher looks at workplace violations across four major immigration countries: the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Incorporating interviews, the Migrant Worker Rights Database, and in-depth analysis of court cases, Boucher uses legal storytelling to document individual migrant experiences and assess the patterns of exploitation that emerge in case narratives. This unique mixed-methods approach provides a novel understanding of migrant workplace violations across a variety of immigration contexts.

Onze huidige samenleving heeft behoefte aan een corrigerend mechanisme dat bescherming biedt tegen de onbehoorlijke aanwending van het recht. Het verbod op rechtsmisbruik verbiedt de titularis van een subjectief recht om zijn recht uit te oefenen op een wijze die kennelijk de grenzen van een redelijke rechtsuitoefening te buiten gaat. Het Hof van Cassatie heeft dit algemeen rechtsbeginsel in zijn rechtspraak verduidelijkt en enorm laten evolueren. Recente arresten van het Hof van Cassatie brengen het verbod op rechtsmisbruik in het contractenrecht weer onder de aandacht. Zowel op vlak van de grondslag, het toepassingsgebied, de criteria als de sanctionering van rechtsmisbruik rijzen nieuwe discussiepunten. Dit boek geeft een algemeen overzicht van de evolutie in de rechtspraak van de hoogste rechtscolleges die het verbod op rechtsmisbruik reeds heeft doormaakt. Binnen dit overzicht licht de auteur de huidige discussiepunten nader toe en onderwerpt ze aan een kritische blik. Lincy Geudens studeerde Rechten aan de KU Leuven en behaalde haar bachelor- en masterdiploma Rechten met grote onderscheiding. Momenteel is zij advocaat aan de balie te Turnhout.

Intended as a guide for wildlife managers and ecotourism operators, as well as interested ecotourists, this book addresses the biological principles governing how ecotourism affects wildlife. The introductory chapters focus on four key responses to human visitation—behavioral, physiological, ecological, and evolutionary. Readers will discover ecotourism’s effects on biodiversity in connection with various industries that are habitat or taxonomically specific: fish tourism (including both freshwater and marine), marine mammal tourism, the huge industry centered on terrestrial animals, and the well-studied industry of penguin tourism. Given that the costs and benefits of ecotourism cannot be meaningfully assessed without understanding the human context, particular attention is given to how ecotourism has been used as part of community development. In closing, the book synthesizes the current state of knowledge regarding best practices for reducing human impacts on wildlife. The final chapter highlights key research questions that must be addressed to provide more evidence-based guidelines and policy.
