In a context marked by the virulent return of patriarchal and white supremacist attitudes, a new generation of feminist activists are continuing the struggle: these are very feminist times. But how do these and other movements relate to the contemporary posthuman condition? In this important new book, Rosi Braidotti examines the implications of the posthuman turn for feminist theory and practice. She defines the posthuman turn as a convergence between posthumanism on the one hand and post-anthropocentrism on the other, and she examines their complex relationship and joint impact. Braidotti claims that mainstream posthuman scholarship has neglected feminist theory, while in fact feminism is one of the precursors of the posthuman turn, through diverse social movements and political traditions. Posthuman Feminism is an analytic and creative response to contemporary conditions and a call to action. It highlights the constraints but also the potentialities available to feminist political subjects as they confront the ever-growing injustices of sexism, racism, ecocide and neoliberal capitalism. September 2015. Hans Vandecandelaere stelt zijn boek over Oud-Molenbeek voor. Twee jaar lang had hij zich in 'de Bronx van Brussel' ondergedompeld, twee jaar lang was hij langs pastoors en imams, schooldirecties, danseressen en politiecommissarissen gereisd. Maar toen ontplofte Parijs. En een paar maanden later ook Brussel. Telkens bleek er een link met Molenbeek. De gemeente werd internationaal nieuws. Elke dag streken er journalisten neer, vaak wandelden ze een paar keer rond de kerk, voerden enkele oppervlakkige gesprekken, en zagen op het einde van de rit bevestigd wat ze op voorhand al in hun hoofd hadden. Waarom gebruiken Italiaanse Belgen een keukentafel om zich van Belgen, en God om zich van Marokkanen te onderscheiden? Op welke wijze onderscheiden autochtone Belgen en Marokkaanse Belgen zich van de andere? Meer nog, wat betekent dit voor de opvoeding van hun kinderen? Het gezin is de plek bij uitstek waar het socialisatieproces van kinderen zich voltrekt. Identiteiten worden er geconstrueerd en overgedragen met de ouders als spilfiguren. In dit boek worden de ideeën en ervaringen van ouders omtrent etnische identiteiten en genderidentiteiten bestudeerd: 42 ouders van Belgische, Italiaanse en Marokkaanse origine werden bevraagd. Het boek besteedt tegelijkertijd aandacht aan religieuze achtergrond, taal, etniciteit en gender? dit niet alleen bij minderheden maar ook bij de maatschappelijk dominante Belgische groep. De resultaten stellen een aantal vanzelfsprekendheden en onzichtbare machtsprocessen omtrent gender en etniciteit expliciet ter discussie

Dit boek richt de spotlights op het kleine ontmoeten, het voorbijflitsende, de stad in zakformaat en de neveneffecten. De lezer wordt ondergedompeld in het alledaagse leven van stedelingen, de wereld van het winkelen en het leven op de tram. De microkosmos van het stadsleven met al zijn minuscule details krijgt voorrang op de grote beschouwingen over onze huidige samenleving. De ongrijpbare elementen halen het van de voorspelbare zaken in het menselijk gedrag.In plaats van de diepgaande en duurzame relaties worden de kortstondige en vluchtige contacten tussen onbekende mensen bestudeerd.
