The brain's vast array of responsibilities includes the regulation of all physical movements, memory, learning and emotions, as well as the reception and interpretation of all sensory inputs. These numerous responsibilities require the facility of a very complex organ, and the brain is complex, to say the least. The brain’s complexity provides a constant challenge for scientists to explore new theories. This book presents and discusses topical data in the field of brain research, with a particular emphasis placed on brain mapping and diseases. -- Publisher

Brain Warping is the premier book in the field of brain mapping to cover the mathematics, physics, computer science, and neurobiological issues related to brain spatial transformation and deformation correction. All chapters are organized in a similar fashion, covering the history, theory, and implementation of the specific approach discussed for ease of reading. Each chapter also discusses the computer science implementations, including descriptions of the programs and computer codes used in its execution. Readers of Brain Warping will be able to understand all of the approaches

This volume addresses consciousness by hypothesizing about the relationship between particular neuronal mechanisms and the various phenomenal features of consciousness. Northoff puts consciousness in the context of the resting state of the brain thereby delivering a new point of view to the debate that permits very interesting insights into the nature of consciousness.

Functional brain mapping has by now gained a high impact on research and clinical practice: huge funds are unveiled all over the world in order to boost the research and clinical applications of this field of neuroscience. The most successful approach to unlock the mysteries of the brain, to tell it with Jay Ingram, is to bring together an interdisciplinary network of scientists and clinicians and encourage an interchange of ideas. It is this crossfire we try to promote with this book.

fMRI is a very popular method for researchers and clinicians to image human brain activity in response to given mental tasks. This book presents a comprehensive review of the methods for computing activity maps, while providing an intuitive and mathematical outline of how each method works. The approaches include statistical parametric maps (SPM), hemodynamic response modeling and deconvolution, Bayesian, Fourier and nonparametric methods. The newest activity maps provide information on regional connectivity and include principal and independent component analysis, crisp and fuzzy clustering, structural equation modeling, and dynamic causal modeling. Preprocessing and experimental design issues are discussed with references made to the software available for implementing the various methods. Aimed at graduate students and researchers, it will appeal to anyone with an interest in fMRI and who is looking to expand their perspectives of this technique.

This updated second edition provides the state of the art perspective of the theory, practice and application of modern non-invasive imaging methods employed in exploring the structural and functional architecture of the normal and diseased human brain. Like the successful first edition, it is written by members of the Functional Imaging Laboratory - the Wellcome Trust funded London lab that has contributed much to the development of brain imaging methods and their application in the last decade. This book should excite and intrigue anyone interested in the new facts about the brain gained fro
