Abstract

Addressing the matter of air quality in a collection of focused scientific topic chapters is timely as a contribution to the international discussion and challenges of global warming and climate change. This book engages with the debate by considering some of the social, public health, economic and scientific issues that relate to the contribution made by airborne pollutants to the observable trending variances in weather, climate and atmospheric conditions. From a wide range of submissions for inclusion in the book, there are seven carefully selected chapters that individually relate to air sampling and analysis: the monitoring, measurement and modelling of air quality. The authors come from a range of academic and scientific disciplines, and each is internationally credited in his/her field. This book will appeal to scholars, to students and generally to those interested in the following contemporary thought in the matter of environment pollution, air quality and the issues of climate and atmosphere the world is facing today.

Abstract

This book deals with various aspects of environmental contamination. One of the fields considered in this work is atmospheric pollution. This has become a major problem of our time, and could soon develop into a scandal through the overestimation of the impact of greenhouse gases such as ozone, NOx or SO2, which allows their use as political instruments. Another growing field of importance covers the fundamental questions posed by the problem of soils and their interaction with waste from human activities, eg. sterile mining waste, sewage sludge, and contaminated dredged material. How do the

Abstract

Environmental public health is an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the direct impact of exposure to environmental hazards on the public's health and wellbeing. Assessing and addressing the risks of chemical hazards requires a sound knowledge of toxicology, environmental epidemiology, environmental science, health risk assessment, and public health principles.Essentials of Environmental Public Health Science provides practical guidance on the technical aspects of environmental and public health investigations. Written by leaders in the field, the authors provide practical, expert advi

Abstract

Environmental Toxicology is a comprehensive introductory textbook dealing with most aspects of the subject, from the molecular to the ecosystem level. Early chapters deal with basic and advanced concepts, methods and approaches. The next tier discusses the environmental toxicology of individual or groups of substances. The third part addresses complex issues, in which many of the concepts, approaches and substances covered in earlier tiers are incorporated. The fourth part includes chapters on risk assessment, rehabilitation and regulatory toxicology. The book concludes with a summary of present and future areas of emphasis. Each chapter contains a comprehensive list of references and further reading, case studies from different jurisdictions, and student exercises. Environmental Toxicology is primarily a textbook for undergraduate and graduate students in environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, applied ecology, environmental management, and risk assessment. It will also be valuable for specialists in ecology, environmental science, and chemistry.

Abstract

The increasing concern for odour abatement, and more generally for reduction of air pollution, has caused a rapid growth in the development of air pollution control techniques, several of which are based on biological degradation of the polluting compounds. This book presents a state-of-the-art overview of recent developments in biological techniques for air pollution control. It describes in detail processes for the prevention of odour nuisances and reduction of odour emissions. It also deals with process design and construction of equipment as well as with odour policy measurements at

Abstract

Currently, one of the most evident and dangerous contaminants aspects for the health of all living beings is air pollution. To understand the severity of this environmental problem, in this book the authors make an in-depth review of different environmental aspects on monitoring, quantification and elimination of emissions to the atmosphere, generated by diverse anthropogenic activities in large cities. Contributors of this book have made an effort to put their ideas in simple terms without forgoing quality. The principal objective of this book is to present the most recent technical literature to all interested readers in this field.
